New puppy questions-help please?
I have a new puppy. He is two months old and I know that he is "normal" in his behavior, but I need advice. How long does the biting go on? The peeing in the house, when we went outside 5 minutes ago. The crying when he is kenneled? How long before he starts recognizing his name and other commands(like no)? Any help or directions I will be grateful for. Thanks-WC
PS-I have never had a dog. Check my 360 page if you are interested in seeing my new "baby"-he will be up soon.
he is mixed, but his dad is a boxer. Mom is a variety pack
he is ormally pretty good about not going in the house. He has never dueced inside, but he is only peeing just a little bit I think it is a territory thing, maybe a temper thing. Oh by the way, I have a cat. They are getting along pretty well.

Ok so pretty much everything goes on until he is trained not to that. To teach him not to bite 1. Whenever he bites you say ouch and or TAP him on the nose gently and tell him no. Or if he bites when you’re playing stop playing with him and ignore him for a few minutes. Then when he clams down start playing with him again. Do one of those things every time he bites and eventually he'll figure out that if he bites he won't be able to play with you and stop.
For going to bathroom in the house when you let him outside keep him outside until you see him go potty then take him outside. If you catch him going potty in the house scold him by saying no or bad dog or whatever you want to say and take him outside. DON’T yell at him if he goes to the bathroom in the house and you don't see him do it he won't understand why your yelling at him and will just be afraid of you.
Most likely the reason he is crying when he is in his kennel is because he’s probably never been in one until you got him and he probably thinks that the kennel will kill him. I don't mean actually him but he’s a baby and like most babies dogs and people he's afraid of the unknown. So to help calm him down teach to go in his kennel on command by, 1. Put him on al each and get some dog food or some other small piece of food or a treat hotdogs that are cut up really small work great. Put a piece of food in the front of the kennel and just let him choose when he wants to go in. It may take him awhile but if you try and force him he could become terrified of his kennel and small spaces then you'll rely have problems. Anyway once he goes in reward him and give him another piece of food and say "kennel” and then let him come out of the kennel repeat that a couple of times then take a break. Then a couple of hours latter put him back on his leash and repeat step one a couple of times hopefully he will remember what happened last time. If he doesn’t then spend ten minutes repeating it. And move on only when he goes in when you say kennel or whatever you use for your command should you move on to step two.
2. Once your pup has learned kennel then start to put him on his leash and tell him kennel when he goes in reward him and ten a soon he has finished eating his reward let him out and make him turn back to you so that he will learn not to run out of doors you can also do that with other doors in your house. Any way every time you have him go in the kennel gradually increase the time until he can stay in the kennel for 5 to 10 minutes. When you are training you pup if he starts to cry while you have him in the crate don't let him out or pay any action to him while he is crying and carrying on because that will teach him to do that just to get action as soon as he Stops crying reward him and let him out immodestly. Also when you train your dog to do anything if you are going to punish him do it right away if your going to praise him also do it right away that way he will learn to associate certain behaviors with your actions and will learn to think instead of just reacting.
As far the learning his name it really just depends on how much you work with him on it. When you teach him his name say his name for example lets say his name is Mac when you say his name as soon as he looks at or acknowledges you reward him eventually get him to pay action to longer before you reward him.
Whenever you train your puppy until he is about 6 months old only train him for about 10 - 15 minutes because puppies action spans are so short.
Sorry if my answer offended you in anyway I was just going on the assumption that you don't know ANYTHING at all about training dogs. That way I hopefully wouldn't forget any thing. If need more help you can E-mail me at strawberryhillkennel or kennels@ yahoo.com Good Luck.

What kind of puppy do you have? Puppies usually chew for a year or so, so you should keep a lot of chew treats and things he can chew on like raw hides and things like that. Get your puppy on a routine and take him out to potty every two hours, especially after he eats and wakes up from naps, Pick him up and carry him outside don't let him walk to door or he will pee before he gets out. As for the crying in his kennel, put him an old blanket with a clock that tics and a stuffed animal and try that. Be persisted with your training and always praise him with treats and love. He should start recognizing his name in about a week and also some simple commands. You should read up on training your new addition to your family and best of luck.

First of all, you need to find a trainer who uses behavioral modification nd not punishment. Dogs nip for several months. You have to firmly say "No" when they do it. Don't hit the dog. If the pup is chewing things in the house, get bitter apple and spray it on what you want it to leave alone. Make sure the crate you're using isn't too big for the dog. Put it in the crate and leave the room for five minutes and come back. Let it out and play a while. Put it back in for longer and longer times so it knows you'll be back. Let the dog out every couple of hours. Find a spot and use that as it's place to go. When it goes, praise it and use a phrase like "hurry up" when it goes so it knows what you expect when you take it out. Use the same door to go out every time. Some people even put a bell by the door for the dog to nose when it wants out. Learn the signs the dog makes when it has to go; walking in circles, whining or looking out he door. Ask the vet for a good trainer and you'll be amazed how fast the progress will be.

Having a puppy requires patience. Depending on the type of breed that you have.. it can be challenging. Puppies are ready to begin training after they are about 12 weeks old. Then you really need to be consist with the crate training and responding with treats the minute they provide you with a positive response. Ignore them when they don't give you the appropriate response - use as much positive reinforecment as possible when they do even the slightest thing that is close to what you are aiming towards. If they come towards you after you call their name.. give a them a huge reward of petting and stroking. Continue to do this with ever behavior that you are working on. Good luck it should take maybe about 3-6 months if you are consistent for the puppy to catch on. I have three puppies right now and they are just learning the word down.. and their names.. We will start the crate training soon.. Ah, until then I am learning to love pupply poop!!

I looked and did not see a pic, but boxers and beagles are always cute, heck dogs are always cute.
He is pretty young he is gona pee and poop a lot.
I would take him out every 30 minutes use happy words and say lets go out and pee pee lets go out and pee pee stay out until he does. Act happy pet him then go right in.
Go back out in 30 min repeat. Take him out during the night.
Just a mild NO NO if he goes inside for now, a little later I used a paper on my hand and a NO but not really straight on the dog.
They get the idea pretty fast.
As for the whining, I never had a real whiner so I can't help much on that. I guess mine get all the attention they need on the pee pee thing.....hope that helps ya out Oh and on the chewing provide him with his chew toy and he only gets that chew toy. Each and every time you catch him chewing on something else give him HIS chew toy. They will chew they have to they are teething

Get a book or go on line for training ideas. Puppy pads by the door work great for paper training, but housebreaking without them is more effective in the long run. Puppies pee ALOT. Take them outside every two hours or more to pee and within 30 minutes after eating for poo. The crying should stop with lots of love an assurances. He is barely old enough to leave his mother and misses her and his litter mates. Patience and love will conquer!

the peeing last until you get hi hosebroken and the whining will last for a couple of days. There is really no need to keep him kenneled once he is potty-trained and the more you use his name the sooner he will recognize it also keep the commands simple one worded commands as the two words or more tend to confuse them also as soon as possible get him into obedience school

Get another dog to visit and let them hang outside together he will follow suit, when he does his thing give praise even give treat depending how you want his training to start.Buy a rope for chewing and play with him while he is.Take him for long intense walk or play and school him.He will tire and adjust to relaxing in kennel

There is no time-table. Eventhough he cries, be firm that he stay in his kennel at night and then rush him outside in the morning before he has a chance to wet. He should recognize his name pretty quickly if you use it often. Be patient and good luck
