Katrina Victims?
Why don't I feel sorry for them? Now that this Katrina special has come on tv everyone is talking about how the people are getting screwed by the government. Why is the government supposed to give you money? Please help me find the compassion to care about what were mostly criminals.
I do feel compassion for those who could not help themselves. I feel horrible for the older people, some incapacitaed by disease, my heart goes out to them. But there has been one face from this hurricane plastered all over the tv, the able bodied young to middle aged black person.

Hi there.
Coming from Louisiana(Baton Rouge), there's a lot I could say.
First, I want to mention that whatever you feel is okay-if you were crying about Katrina everyday, there might be some emotional imbalance that Prozac or Thorozine might take care of. :)
Now, I want to mention a few notes on the criminals you are speaking of. Your information is bad. Venus, Buras, Belle Chase, Metarie, Kenner, Ninth Ward, and the inner city new orleans are only a little bit of who got effected. (And I can tell you this much, only about 4-5 percent of that population would be consider criminal-pretty good odds, I say). The coastline of Mississippi is also part of Katrina's wrath.
New Orleans is talked about the most because it's such an ecomonic point for the nation. But if you talked to my best friend, a great girl who's family lost their entire community in St Bernard parish-she'd be shocked by your words. Having no proof now that she was once a smalltown basketball star, having no remaining pictures of her family or her deceased father, having to see her closest kin move from New York to Upstate MS-it's a little hard to comprehend some one that DOESN't have some amount of compassion for Katrina victims.
Another close friend's mother died in this storm. I myself was lucky, most of my immediate family was not effected. But in a situation like this, either you are helping or being helped. So I helped as much as I can. I was a hotel manager for a Comfort Suites right off the interstate near Baton Rouge, working with a broken ankle(sorry, not trying to dramatize this, but) and had hundreds of people staying on the floors, rooms, cots in the storage areas. It was the most intense days of my whole life.
I'm proud of these people. The demographics that were effected were everyone from rich old ladies to lost five year olds. Thousands.
If you are hearing that Katrina's victims were 'mostly' criminals, then you are just wrong. I hope this gives you a little bit of a different point of view.
Unless you live here, I can't imagine how surreal all of this must seem.
Good luck, I hope you find your answers. I'm sure you are a good person that is just trying to process this just like everyone else.

You are one cold dude.
Sure there are a**holes in every city (i.e., criminals and people that do not want to help themselves) but what about the masses that try to live a decent life.
I prepare tax returns and I am still filing returns for hurricane damages.
What do you say to a 75 year old couple on fixed income that are under-insured. They built their home on 12 ft. piling and had 4 1/2 ft of water in their home. They lost antiques and heirlooms past down from generations. Now, they will not receive any government assistance but still their losses are over $140,000. Sure start your life over.
Cannot generalize my man. Each case has its own story.

The victims of typhoon Katrina did not get help immeadiate help because get admission to to New Orleans became constrained. also there would not were any "victims" of typhoon Katrina in the journey that they'd have listened to the caution. once you realize there's a typhoon comming you get out of the caution section. Take a bus..experience your bike...take a automobile...get out one way or the different. It became ridiculous how alot of persons stayed behind in ordinary words to wade through and die on the hand of thier own lack of life. There stupidity reason thier own suffering. it really is through thier blunders that we can study from. once you warn someone now to not contact a warm range...ninety 9.9 p.c. of the persons will pay interest. Why did not the persons of recent orelans pay interest? so that you'll answer your question. Bush shouldn't ought to convey regret to the victims. It wasn't his fault that they were not in a position to leave. they did not should get help because THEY were stupid FOR not HEEDING WARNINGS. do not talk about detrimental human beings both... every person can develop into what they prefer to be in this united states of america. human beings choose thier own destinies. human beings choose to be detrimental and deprived. in case you do not have a automobile you're choosing now to not have a automobile. in case you do not have a computer..you're choosing now to not have a computer. seem on the hispanic or the (asian) Indians who come to this united states of america and change thier lives round.

You are under the wrong inpression. Most victims are not criminals. They were just people who are not as fortunate as others financially. You are allowing the negative views of the media to cloud your judgment of people.
