Did he know of his orders? Did he know the consequences of disobeying orders? Did he choose to disobey orders knowing what the consequences would be? Will he now accept the consequences of his actions or does he feel that consequences are only for other people? Should we make new rules and consequences specifically just for him and make them retroactive to the time that he knowingly decided to disobey orders? Or should we make new rules that say that Chaplain's can lead others in any and specific deity's name they like? Will this new rule also apply to the Chaplain who would prefer to lead a general prayer in the name of Apollo---even after being told not to? Or will only certain people and certain religions be allowed to disobey orders?

Tough call. The man is under orders, but we expect soldiers and sailors to follow the dictates of conscience.
You must understand that people in the military are subject to military, rather than civil law, but he is willing to go to the mat for his beliefs, as have others in our country.
How would you feel if he was a Jewish chaplain who felt the need to pray in Hebrew?

There is a reason for those orders. A chaplain must minister to all faiths. He deserves what he gets.

my answer would still be the same.
it is not a matter of someone elses' faith but a bigger issue of ur own faith. dont u always start with -- IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER AND OF THE SON AND OF THE HOLT GHOST.
so now u are trying to leave GOD behind and only take the name of the Son. so who is bigger? the God who created the son? or the son himself?

His commanding Officer should be retired one grade lower!
Of course burring him at sea now and avoiding the rush is also a good idea!
I'd do it with full military honors so he could see noting was left out as we pushed him off the fantail

That's terrible. I bet if it was some mad mullah, they would have collapsed on their knees towards Meccah or something.
