Just say "I'm holding a potluck for... bring your favorite dish to celebrate! BBQ chicken/pork/beef will be provided by me. Also the sodas/tea/water. If you'd like to share your favorite beverage, feel free to BYOB! Hope to see you there!

I would use the words "guests are invited to bring a dish to share as well as a card with the recipe" That would seem like the most proper and formal way of phrasing. If it's just an informal occasion, then I'd think the words "potluck" would be fine and understood. My best friend did this for me and I loved it. I still use those recipies to this day.

**When you figure out the guest list divy up the chips, side dishes etc so you don't end up with all chips or potato salad for the sides.

A lunch meat and veggie tray is less. Make a few side salads and just provide iced tea, pop, and water. She could include BYOB inside the invitations. If everyone knows her situation they won't be offended.

Both are good for you, each fruit/vegetable has different vitamins. Thus as more variety, as better. Vegetables have generally less sugar than fruits.

We do this all the time...she could say something like: bring your favorite dish to share, and if you're a drinker, bring your favorite drink (this does not need to be for sharing). Hope to see you here!
