Vacation Ideas (with children) needed?

My kids are ages 9 and 3. We do the beach or the mountains every year. Anyone have any unique vacation ideas for a family?

I just came back from Walt Disney World in Florida. It is fabulous! You can book the entire vacation with them and never have to leave the resort, which has 5 parks plus a lot of other entertainment (golf, mini-golf, boating, water sports, beach, etc.) The Disney Magical Express service is free. They sent you luggage tags prior to your trip. Once you check in your luggage, you don't have to pick up at the Florida airport. You just get off the plane with your kids and go to the Disney counter. They will bus you to your hotel. Then your luggage will appear in your room. Inside the resort (it's bigger than my city), there are buses and monorail that takes you anywhere you want to go. The day you are leaving, you just check-in your luggage at the hotel counter and the hotel prints your boarding pass for you. Then you just take the bus to the airport without getting into any lines. This is such a great service....they know how difficult is to travel with kids and have to deal with all the luggage. I would highly recommend this.

The Disney 7 day Cruise is the best. There are lots of things for the kids to do, with a wonderful staff to watch them while mom and dad are enjoying themselves at the adult pool. The kids can still have fun visiting with their favorite characters without the hectic running around of the theme parks. The food is great, and the ports are wonderful (I like the Eastern the best, but Western is great too). The best part is enjoying Disney's private island, Castaway Cay.

But whatever you decide to do, you will be with your family which makes vacations priceless.

If you are not into 'Disney' I would suggest Alaska or Hawaii. They are both beautiful as well.

My family and I just did HersheyPark and Hershey in PA. That was great for both my kids, both under age 5. There were over 40 rides both of them could go on. We also went to the Crayola factory one day, which was a blast.

Depending on whether your 9 year old is into history - what about a tour of civil war sites (Gettysburg, Antietam, etc.).

Have you thought about a vacation in a great city environment? Toronto has the best zoo I've ever been to, and I've been to zoos in several countries (near Niagra Falls too); Wash. DC - great museums; New York - great theater, ballet, Statue of Liberty, Central Park, Musuem of Natural History and the Planetariam are awesome; Chicago.

Check out the cities' tourist websites to see what they suggest you do with kids.

There are also vacations where the whole family goes canoeing or cooking, etc. Look up educational vacations on the web.

I don't know where you live, but Legoland is a great place to take your kids. It is located just north of San Diego California. There are lots of hotels nearby. It makes for a great day trip. Also you can go to Sea World in S.D. and then go up to Disneyland in L.A. Lots of great attractions in that area.

    Hope this helps.
