Bi-focal users: how do you get used to these things?

I got bi-focals in December and I'm supposed to wear them all the time. I have only had glasses for two years now - first reading glasses and now these. I just can't get used to them. I'm tripping over things and misjudging distance. What's the key?

I think you ran into the same thing that I did, They made the reading part too high and it kept interfering with my eyesight when looking straight ahead. I lost them and I was glad of it.

The Optometrist measured my eye from the top down and he should have been measuring from the bottom up.

That was the worst set of glasses I ever had.

I have used trifocals in the past with very good results. It was almost natural; my eye used to index the right area automatically, no problems at all.

I think you should complain to the person who made your glasses. The key is they don't fit right and don't let them tell you to "Hang in there". That is a waste of time, the problem won't correct itself.

In the mean time you will have to learn to move your head instead of just your eyes to see what is below and in front of you.

Good Luck I really sympathize with you.

If you've had them since December, maybe you should go back to your optometrist.

I believe most bifocal wearers use a separate pair of glasses for reading-like in bed at night or study.

You should be used to them by now.

I've had them for yonks and think they're great.Tried the contact lenses once but that was impossible.

You will get used to them. Just make sure when your walking you look out the top of the glasses and out the bottom for reading

I never liked my traditional bi-focs so I got Progressive lenses which were even more difficult to get used to but now I wouldn't trade them for all the tea in China.
