Need to ask again:Is purgatory real?

well. You appearently are catholic. The Holy Bible mentions purgatory ZERO times.

Hell is mentioned 162 times in the New Testament. Hell is referred to in 8 different names. "Purgatory", not being one of them.

What do these names Sheol, Hades, Gehenna, Queber, Tartarus, Abyss, Hell, and the Lake of Fire mean?

Jesus said this also to the thief on His right at His crucifixion. Jesus told these men that they will be in Paradise - meaning that they will not go to purgatory first. That they were forgiven and that Jesus will let them go directly to Heaven.

Purgatory is real. Most souls will go to prugatory first because nothing uncleaned, blemished, full of sin can enter Heaven. Many of us have sin on our soul when we die. So we go to Purgatory first to be cleansed of our sin. Some many only be in purgatory for a minute, some a year, some 1000 yrs. Depends on our good deeds, our bad deeds, and how much faith we had on earth. This place wasn't given a name in the Bible by Jesus. The Church later named it Purgatory, meaning "a place for purification".

Read 2 Maccabees 12 - this tells us of this purification place. Verse 46 says "Thus he made atonement for the dead that they might be freed from this sin."

We have a very strong need for justice in our understanding of God and relationships. The idea of purgatory allows for people who did not entirely reject God but have some unpaid guilt. Its a temporary place of purification and then you go to heaven.

Your question, put in terms of reality, is problematic. Is a rainbow real. Is a mothers love for her children real, is a dream or fear or happiness real? You can not wrap these things up in box and pull them apart like you can a car or a loaf of bread. Do these things happen in our life? Are they real for you?

When we face death do we wonder if we will be called to account for our faults and missed opportunities. If we do that before we die, do we avoid our time in purgatory, perhaps. Will we have a calmer death if we do, yes I think so. If we do not atone for our sins in this life, will we have to do it in the next, in purgatory, perhaps.

Should we make restitution for our sin, yes I think we should. If we claim to know what love is, it makes sense that we would seek out those we have injured, even if we can only do that in our hearts, and express sorrow. I think a loving God would give us the opportunity to do that. What do you think?

Purgatory is unbiblical. Luke 23:42-43 is a parable.

In the Greek, there are no comma's. The text should read Luk 23:43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee today, shalt thou be with me in paradise.

We know Jesus didn't goto paradise when he died, he died. He even said Joh 20:17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.

When the end comes, that thief will be raised from the dead. That is, when Jesus comes in glory in the clouds with all his Holy Angels.

Joh 6:54 Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.

Purgatory exists ONLY in the catholic world.

There are only 2 places to go. Heaven or Hell.

Yes, it is a temporary place for those who are not quite ready to be in the light, love, joy, and glory of an Esteemed GOD who loves us and reserves the right to a clean soul in his presence........~p~
