Should we follow the Bible?

Admittedly, I do not cover my head. Here is how these things have been explained to me by a host of educated "authorities".

The best way think about the Bible is to try and put yourself in the time when the various sections were written. For example, if I were to tell you that your were 'On the trolley', what would think? At first look that saying is silly and makes no sense; however, when you look at it in its historical context, it means that you have the right idea. And that saying is only about 80 years old!

The first step to an educated view of any literature is to understand the meaning of the writer and not to jump to conclusions on the words since those words don't mean the same thing they did 2000 years ago. The Bible is so complex that you can easily spend years on just a few books. I encourage to take that journey on just one. You will be well reward for the trip.

Some Things in the Bible are to be taken contextually. For example, there no slaves in my country. Do you thinks it applies to me or to anybody in my country?

During the those times Paul wrote to Timothy, they had problems with some women gossiping around so Paul advised not to let women speak. In their times. YES we should follow the Bible, especially the principles behind those advises.

You forgot the times when god slaughtered the little babies, and made men rape their neighbor's wives.

I don't understand how these people write, 'that was the old testament' well then what the heck is it doing in YOUR bible? How could your God change his mind and write another section so different from his original?

The bible has outgrown any possible usefulness (if it ever had any) and it is time for Christianity to fade away like the mythological Gods of Egypt and Greece.

In the examples you've cited, obviously no. But there is some good stuff in there. Christ's Sermon on the Mount is not all bad. Just cherry-pick the good stuff like everyone else does.

You left out the verse from Matthew 19:12 where Jesus tells his disciples they should castrate themselves.
