Do you think that when somebody's drunk....?
........It reveals the kind of person they are - or do you think it's a distortion of who they are?
My friend gets either really mean - or really sleazy - when he's drunk. That's why I was wondering.
Alcohol can stink........
P.S. this guy isn't my boyfriend by the way.......... just a friend.
Anyway thanks for your answers so far...

Alcohol has to have a distortion affect. The way I see it (and believe me...I've seen it), someone gets sloppy drunk, and before you know it they're stumbling around, preaching the facts of life to some stranger with vodka on the breath. Drunk people seem to can't think about what they're doing or saying before hand. I think their brain actually shuts down, then again, I'm only talking from what I've seen.
Now fear is a whole different story, you'll see true colors when fear comes around. Brings the ugliness out of people.

Fact from fiction, truth from diction. Those who get drunk got there because they had not the imagination to have a great time sober, with out booze. I know many who say they know how much they can drink, or they know if they were drunk or not. How can they really? Put a guy behind the wheel and take away his speedometer. How can he tell he wasn't speeding? So, the fact that people even get drunk is due to lack of imagination.
getting drunk is both a distortion and a reality.
In actions it is more a distortion than reality. You might get the thought in your mind that you can tight rope across two apartment buildings via the cable wire because the booze took away the rational thinking that it will not work. But you think you can. It makes a girl get up and do a wet t-shirt contest when she would never leave the house bra less even because she don't want the "bullets" to show on her breast.
In words, a drunk man will tell you the truth 1,000 times over. Because rational thinking is clouded. He doesn't know how to hold a lie, or hold it well. It is like when you get really pissed and you blurt out something you held your tongue on, but are so mad, the anger clouded the rationale and out it came. Most are behind a mask when they are sober and the real them when drunk. maybe that is why they do it. so if anyone calls them to task on it, they can blame the alcohol.

Alcohol reacts differently on different people, depending on their race, family abuse of alcohol, being around those who abuse, and if he/she is on medication.
People who drink tend to become noisy and abusive. No exceptions. Their inhibitions are lessened and the alcohol not only is a crutch, but lets them say things they ordinarily wouldn't which sometimes is not good.
Alcohol and marijuana or narcotics is bad news. Unpredictable news, the body can't tell you when you've had too much.
One drink leads to more. The more drinks, the more problems and the bigger the hangover in the morning.
It can make one mean, when he/she isn't a mean person. It can make a woman sleazy, because her inhibitions go out the window. It does the same for a man. Alcohol can and does stink, in more ways than one.
One doesn't need to drink to be happy. Get your high from life.
One doesn't need to drink when they are sad. Booze is a downer.
One doesn't need to drink period.
The younger people thinks it makes them feel more grown up. This isn't true. They sometimes can't handle it, and what would their dad say if they wrecked the car?
Forget the booze - Drink booze, You lose.

If I remember my pharmacology classes, alcohol is a central nervous system depressant (slows you down, bigtime---that's why mixing alcohol and certain drugs, like sleeping pills or sedatives, can be lethal). It also affects the frontal lobes of the brain FIRST---which is the part of the brain that controls "civilized" behavior, knocking down inhibitions. Thus, people tend to "loosen up" after a few drinks. The booze goes in, the mouth opens up, and WHAM!
FWIW, I've dealt with a number of alcohol users/abusers, and someone who "gets either really mean or really sleazy" when drunk would kick off my warning bells BIGTIME, whether they were lover, friend, or relative. Behavior can go from a little sullen to near-homicidal within a few minutes.
Is this person really worth hanging around, if you'll pardon a blunt question? If he's drinking heavily enough to be causing problems with health, job/school, legal issues, or relationships.... he may be an alcoholic (and goodness knows, there's lots of company in the US). If drinking is causing a problem (legally, in relationships, health, at work/school, financially)....it IS a problem, whether it's one binge a month, a six pack a night, or half a pint of whiskey tucked away in sips through the day.
If you're worried about your friend, consider contacting Al-Anon for yourself for support (and possibly suggest AA for him, if he's getting concerned. But be aware: a lot of abusers don't go to rehab/12-step programs/other treatments till they're in a LOT of pain. Denial is a major problem with this disease.)
Check your local phone book, or call your local United Way office, for other sources of help (such as local programs). Good luck!

Some people become totally unhibited whereas some were able to control certain aspects of their personality no matter how drunk they are.
For everyone that i knew, when a person gets drunk it reveals their self when they are in a depressed mood (yes some people are more sleazy when they get depressed coz they needed to be loved).

I think it's like the person they try not to be...both statements are true. It's who they really are, but a distorted view of it because they're not really 'all' there.
I don't buy that "I was drunk" excuse. If you did something when you were drunk, it's because it's something you wanted to do but were afraid to while sober or your common sense told you not to....our conscience still talks to us when we're loaded...most people just start talking so damn loud that they can't hear it anymore.
Alcohol can stink...drunks stink...drink, but don't get drunk. ;)

I think that this depends on the individual. Some people get mean, some get funny, some get serious, some get sleazy. Most of the time when my friends and I drink responsibly, we just let the truth out and will sit and talk about secrets so it depends on the group that is around and the individual.

Your friend can turn on you as fast as he takes a drink. Just be extremely careful. An alcoholic can wear you down as fast as he takes a drink. Be careful. Call AA and they can tell you of meetings for you and your friend. If he does not want to go, you go. You may just have to let him go. Do not have him for a boyfriend. You will be bruised. My sister was so bad that she shot one husband and wrapped a phone cord around another. The police would not touch her because she was so mean.

i think it reveals the kind of person they are. we all are born with certain characteristics and traits, but society tells us to hide some of them if they are not acceptable. when someone's drunk, their inhibitions are free and they feel as they can do whatever they want. hence, their 'mean' or 'sleazy' side comes out.

I think it depends on the person. I get more honest, one of friends turns turns unto this very distorted person from who he is. I think it really separates out those who can handle alcohol, and who can't.
