If we have found a new supply of oil?

Then why cant we uncap and put back into use what we have already to go. Knowing we dont have to worry about running dry?

Update:

our US oil in the states has been capped since the 80s not for sale . so lets us it . not that we have found more we dont have to worry about running dry.

We would leave ourselves vulnerable to extreme supply issues if several of the foreign countries decided to cut off our oil supply during this period of depleted emergency supplies.

I think that we would have to take the worst case scenario and try to make a best guess as to how long we could continue at our current economic level if all foreign oil supplies were completely shut off and we had to rely on our domestic and emergency supplies.

I don't think that we could rely only on those sources until the Gulf of Mexico oil reserves can be utilized.
