Here is the etymology (the history of a word) of celebrity from the online etymology dictionary : http://www.etymonline.com/index.php?term=celebrity
c.1380, "solemn rite or ceremony," from O.Fr. celebrité, from L. celibritatem (nom. celebritas) "multitude, fame," from celeber "frequented, populous." Meaning "condition of being famous" is from 1600; that of "famous person" is from 1849.
So if you want the earliest use of the word "celebrity' in our modern sense, then it dates from 1849. I hope this helps.
