sinus surgery?

I might need to get surgery on my sinuses because they don't drain properly, what can I expect from surgery?

Had this type of surgery several years ago. Actually my problem was that my sinus would drain into my ear to the point that I could not hear out of the ear. The ear, nose, & throat doc attempted to surgically put a tube in my ear, but my ear canal was too small. Because I am a smoker, he did remove some tissue from my sinus to check for cancer. After my surgery, I was sore for several days, but nothing major. Good luck too you. Let me know how you make out. Shoot me a e-mail at natsfan624@yahoo.com. My name is Eugene. take care.

Get it done! You will feel so much better after wards. My husband has had it done twice. First time was 7 years ago, 2nd time 3 years ago. He came home and slept the first night in a tilt back chair (was nervous to lay down). Pain medication he used the first day and a half and it kept him sleeping and quiet. The packing is uncomfortable but not painful. About the 3rd day you will go back to have it removed. He claimed that it was more scary than anything because he did not know they could put so much packing in and never thought the Dr. would finish pulling it out. The first time he did not follow Dr's orders after wards by using nasal sprays regularly plus he went back to work (working in paint fumes). This last time he has followed Dr's orders and his check up last month was good. He has had a problem with most loss of smell and minor nerve damage but he said he was glad he has had it done. Just find out what side effects are possible, and what type of meds you will be on after wards & for how long. GOOD LUCK

I had the surgery April, 2004...just the standard roto-rooter job. I no longer have issues with sinus infections, in spite of being on immunosuppression medications due to a bi-lateral lung transplant (result of Cystic Fibrosis). I can breathe through my nose for the first time in years. The only "down side" to the surgery is that you can't blow your nose for several days even though you'll really feel like you want to. If you do then you have a risk of bleeding. My father had the same type of surgery with the same results.

No black eyes, no pain, was eating normal food later the day of surgery. No physical limitations, other than not blowing, that I remember.

    Good luck!
