New Cable TV - Bad Picture Quality + "Ghosts" - Help!?

I just bought a new cable TV for my apartment in the university residence. When I get it plugged in and set to cable (not air) there are really bad ghosts on most (not all) of the channels. I don't have a car so I can't drag the TV all the way back to the store- what could I do to fix this problem? Would an antenna help get the picture clearer?

Update:

I have cable.

Update 2:

I experimented with a different cable and that helped the problem but it's still not perfect. This is a university-owned student apartment, so I went to the electronics store across from campus. The guy said that he gets tons of complaints from students in these apartments whose reception sucks, so tomorrow morning I will call the cable company (which is all arranged through the university) and ask them to send someone else out. I am also waiting on service calls for my blinds, window screens, light fixture and mattress! :)

It sounds like the cable is not wired properly. Check your connection on the back of your TV. If it is correct, then the cable company must not have connected things properly. I assume you are paying for this cable service. If so, call the cable company and complain. Its service contract with you requires that it provides a clean signal. Tell the company that you will not pay for days that you get substandard service.

You have cable? Then call the cable company. Most have free service calls and it sounds to me like this is an issue with that. One simple question, though- did you have another TV hooked up before? How did that look? If that looked good and this one looks bad, then I'd probably lean towards a bad TV. However, that is very rare. It's my guess that you've never had a TV hooked up to up and once you did, you thought you found a new problem. But, it's probably been there for a while. As stated before, make sure all you connections are finger tight, look over all the cords, and if that doesn't work, call the service department. I hope this helps!

I also want to add that it is pretty ridiculous to follow what pvreditor posted. Maybe that's how he does things in his world, but that doesn't get you help in the real one. You don't need to call and be rude to get problems fixed.

You have to HAVE CABLE in order to use the cable setting! You can't use an antenna on a cable setting!

My aunt got cables for her Tv. They are supposed to help the quality of the movies, but I don't think that they work very well.

There is some bad ingress caused by poor cable, poor fittings,(push on jumpers), loose fittings, or poor shielding on the t.v. it self. An antenna would make it worse.

undesirable boys are the boys that a woman's parents do no longer choose her as much as now. Ever considered " A Streetcar Named want"? the guy in that movie/play performed via Marlon Brando is the epitome of a foul Boy.
