Islamist what do you think about the Taliban destroying Buddhas?

In Afghanistan supreme Taliban leader Mullah Mohammed Omar issued an edict against un-Islamic graven images, which means all idolatrous images of humans and animals. As a result, the Taliban are destroying all ancient sculptures. Explosives, tanks, and anti-aircraft weapons blew apart two colossal images of the Buddha in Bamiyan Province, 230 kilometers (150 miles) from the capital of Kabul.

What do you feel about this? Do you agree with it or not?

Thanks,

Update:

I understand this was a few years ago, but I would like to know what the current feelings are now.

As a Muslim, I believe that was a big shame what the Taliban did. The Taliban is a shameful representation of Islam and most Muslims despise their mentality. Muslims are supposed to respect the religious symbols of other religions.

P.S. We are not Islamists, it's better to not call us that... we are Muslims.

In the beginning, this question was directed at the Islamists. In the last part, it asks what you feel about this etc. I am not an Islamist. It pained me when I saw the mutilated carvings of Buddha in Afghanistan. Art and culture are the vehicles and the expressions of our faith. I am told the fundamentals among the Muslims feel strongly against Music. I am reminded of the reaction of Ustad Bismillah Khan to such a view expressed by a Muslim leader who visited him at Varanasi. The latter termed music as 'saitan'. He said it be 'saitan' let it be saitan. There are many wonderful and unique teachings in Islam. No religion can teach ideals which are universal and relevant for all time and for all people. Islam is down to earth and does not obfuscate and seeks to cut down the polemics in theology. It emphasis on the oneness of God and the universal brotherhood has unleashed many a hidden human synergy which ushered in a new era for mankind. But .... what to say of such actions as demolition and vandalism of this magnitude? It is really a sad event for any body, whether he is religious or not.

The Taliban are di*kh**ds and are no more Muslims than the Klu Klux Klan are Christians They are a shameful representation of all humanity. However they were put in power by non-Muslims (the USA) and true Muslims have suffered as a result- not to mention Buddhists and wonderful ancient artifacts.

They disgust me but they are not Muslims just sad f**kers who are deluded. They are the enemy of Muslims as much as they are he enemy of none Muslims, after all Muslims suffer daily at the hands of their constant and daily terror. I'm ashamed they call themselves Muslim but I know that they are not Muslim, nor am I ashamed to call myself a Muslim.

The destruction of the sculptures is unacceptable from both a Muslim and personal point of view.

    The Talibans are not Islam.

The statues are not Buddha. Nobody on earth can touch Buddha.

No religions teach condemnation, enmity, revenge.

We better learn love, understanding, forgiveness...in order to build a better world for our offsprings.

LOVE IS THE SUPREME REMEDY FOR ALL ILLS.

First of all its not Islamists, its muslims.

Feel it was wrong coz it was historic and important for people of buddhist faith so they had right to the statues not the taliban.

the article that you pronounced describes efforts through a chinese ability exploration business enterprise to maintain various historic artifacts in Afghanistan. enable me repeat that in case that's not sparkling for you. Your article discusses how a chinese business enterprise is SAVING artifacts in Afghanistan, no longer destroying them. "chinese Taliban"? Are you attempting to kill us with hilarity?

Why look at us muslims? It was the USA that put the taliban in power

  • 1 decade ago

Bulls**t, don't believe that all muslims think this is a good idea. Bin S**tface and the gang don't represent Islam...not even by 0.00001 percent. The man's nuts that all.
