Go to start and then all programs and then accessories and then system tools and run disk cleanup. It will scan how many files you dont need and when the scanning has completed it will say temporary internet files make sure you tick every box and then click ok and let it cleanup and then they will be deleted.

Right click the blue e that is the IE icon>Properties>Cookies>Delete Files <when the dialog box comes up put a check mark in the box and click OK>Then click on Clear History.

I use Spybot Search & Destroy to get rid of a lot of stuff I don't want. It has a "Secure Shredder" in the Tools section in Advanced Mode. As an added bonus it takes care of MOST other spyware and has "Tea Timer" for Real Time protection against unauthorized Registry Changes. To back up SS & D, I use Lavasoft's AdAware.

Both programs are free and can be dowloaded at: http://download.com/

If that 'crashes' your computer you have corrupt files. Try a System Restore to correct this. If System Restore doesn't do it. You may have to back up all your data and do an OS Re-install....NOT fun!!!

This should be a routine opperation. That it isnt, suggests something doesnt want to be deleted.

I'm reasonably experienced, and have never encountered this as a topic/problem in a forum to do with regular microsoft problems.

I have had viruses, and all sorts, but not this, so it just may be a legit conflict, but certainly viruses to wiered things.

My best suggestion, is a re format, and re install windows, if your competent, have the disks, and can back up personal files.

If not, it may be a long slug with antivirus, But dont download any free scanners etc, that may appear. Obviously, do not do any pc banking or online purchases until its sorted.

sorry cant be of more help, but hope its helpful advice in the mean time.

When in internet explorer, click on tools. internet options, advanced tab, scroll down to "empty temporary internet files folder when browser closes" tick the checkbox. Will delete temporary internet files each time you close browser/shut down your pc. If pc crashes going into tools, options, you have some other problem to sort out first eh?
