I try to find different things like tickets to his favorite sporting event with his favorite relative(s) or friend, pack of movie passes or video rentals, a bowling ball or other sporting stuff, gift certificates to an arcade/fun center, season pass to the neighborhood pool, etc.
Especially things that will last for a while or that will likely create good memories.

Well seeing that kids these days need things to preoccupy themselves, a good gift for any child that age would be a huge trash sack full of candy and i'd say about six cases of soda that has massive amounts of caffeine in it. Then top that off with a pogo stick.

A puzzle? Maybe try a video game that has some sort of educational value to it.

How about Brain Quest? They have them for various age groups. They're very educational and great to motivate little minds!

Electric Scooter! One that doesn't go over 15mph! My son just turned 7 and that's what he got!! I cant keep him off of it!! Make sure you buy some gear though for protection!! Helmet,knee pads etc..... He will love it!!!!
