Those who think the US government is too religious, are you aware of religion taxes in Western Europe?
Germany, Denmark and several other European Union nations institute a national tax and distribute it to the religious groups. Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland have national churches. So much for socialist atheism eh?

Bush as successfully bypassed Congress over 800 times using what is called executive orders...
Some of those executive orders were for his Faith-Based Initiative programs that clearing violate separation of church and state; therefore, are unconstitutional.
IE, HR 921 moved the Faith-Based Initiative headquarters within the Homeland Security department. What does that tell you? It tells me that defending against terrorism has something to do with Christianity.
So to answer your question, yes the USA government has become too religious.

Whatever you think a 'national church' means, you are very likely wrong. And in any case this is no longer true, the relationship between the government and the church was removed some years ago.
While something like 80% of Swedes are technically "members of the church", only about 2% regularly attend church services. The only reason most people are members are because you are automatically if your parents were, and if you're not, you can't get married in a church or buried there. Sweden is a fairly secular country, in reality, and the christian fundamentalist antics of other countries are viewed with something approaching bemused horror.

It doesn't matter, until we are "better" than every nation in the world, in every concievable way, the US will be the greatest evil in the world. Heaven forbid we say "under God" in the pledge of alliegence. Our civil liberties are under fire. How dare we "torture" terrorists, even though the methods used by Pakistan to stop the airline plot were far worse. It doesn't matter what Europe does, they are precieved to be better than us in some way. No death penalty and they don't support Iraq.
Even if any of them concede your point, they will just say that America must take the moral high ground. But, I agree with you, the US government is very unreligious when compared to the rest of the world.

Europeans have their own demons regarding religion, much different than ours.
They have to worry about violent clashes between religious groups.
We have to worry about one religious group dominating all others.
On every country on Earth, religion is a problem.

In Germany they take a certain percentage of your pay and give it to the Church of your choice. I was once told by a German that it was 10% but I think that I have since heard that it was less than that.

The US government has NO RELIGION whatsoever.
Ask Bush how many times he does a confession regarding the Iraq war and his battle against terrorism.
