Looking for Soldiers and descendants of Soldiers of my Grandfather's Unit in WW II, 36th Infantry Division.

My Grandfather was in the 36h Infantry Division from Texas. they was in North Africa before they moved onto the campaign in Italy. He landed at Paetum during the invasion of Salerno, Italy. The invasion took place on Sept 9th, 1943.

He wrote a story I want to share with sons, daughters, and grandchildren of the men he fought with.

I would love to find his close friends he spoke of (hoping they were not killed later or have passed on). A friend he talks about in his story, named "Mac" and he loved Motorcycles. He said he was from Jessyville, Illinois. He spoke of a german bike my he talked "Mac" out of liberating from the side of the road on the morning of the invasion for fear of being booby trapped. They hid behind a 3ft stone wall as the tanks went by.

He also mentions his best friend, "Jinx" Colley. Said he was from Protland, Oregon. They dug a foxhole together on that first night and had to watch each other's back while the other slept during the night.

My grandfather served in North Africa...he was a welder...fixed tanks, if I remember right. I wonder if he may have been in the same command?
