There is always the public transportation, look for a nice hotel/ kitchenette with features you want and check the bus route. Orlando's buses are descent and you might see other things along the way you would want to check out. Here is the link to the website with a bus route assistance form. if some one in your group is military, active or retired, you might try the navy lodges. I don't know if they are still there, it's been years since we lived there. If not you might try the Sheriton (sp) on McCoy Rd. It's several miles from all the resorts, close to the airport and sits beside the McDonalds that I worked at. There is another hotel futher down the road, about a mile or so that might also have what your looking for. I'm sorry I can't remember the name of it, just that it is a national chain also. Have fun. You might try visiting Disney village. It's a little shopping place by the the theme park. During Christmas they do a FANTASIC Christmas progam.
I think most hotels run a free, or low priced shuttle to the parks.

You should try www.hotels.com - my family and I are going (3 adults and 1 child) in 3 weeks and we found "Holiday Villas Walt Disney Area". They each are 2 or 3 bedroom and have kitchen, living area, a shuttle service to most theme parks and about 5 min. from all. They seem to be pretty reasonable (at least for early Oct. ) I hope this helps - Let me know if you want my email and I can let you know how it is after we get back! Good luck!!!

I know you have been to priceline and those other sites, but you need to go to www.hotels.com because they will find you a place with the ammenities and location you are looking for. Then you need to go to www.tripadvisor.com to read the reviews of others who have stayed at the hotel you are interested in.
Otherwise if you just take the advise of someone who advised you online you might in up in a place that is not too great.

Check out the Hilton Hotels. They have all prices within their company of hotels. Find one that is close to Univeral Studios. There's lots of them. One of theirs is the Hampton Inn and they usually have kitchens. When you call, make sure they are close to Univeral Studios or you will be doing a lot of driving. Have fun.
