How much would a 1968 Mercedes 240 be worth?

I have an opportunity to get one and I was wondering the value 1.) as-is: Runs, needs paint, brake work, engine tuned, interior condition - fair (cracked dash) about 160,000 miles -- and, 2.) what I might be able to sell it for if I was to try to fix it up (either to a reasonable level or to a "restore" level).

It has been our experience that earlier to mid year Mercedes Sedans like the 240 you describe should be able to be purchased under $1000.00. Sadly in really good condition you shouldn't expect to get over 2000 for it, and that will take some time.

The problem with the early Mercedes is cost of parts to repair. Parts can easily be 20 times the cost of similar parts for US cars. These cars are often sink holes for cash that will never come back.

Book values on these cars are VERY inflated and should not be trusted. Look at closed auctions on e-bay and you will see what these cars actually sell for if they sell at all
