I quit work to stay home with my kids. When I added it up, between day care, gas, I needed a new car every two years because I was on the road all the time, so car payments and I had to dress for work, I was working for 10.00 a day. I quit work, we took my car off the road and used just one car, I actually saved money on groceries because I was home to cook, I used approximately 30 to 40 dollars of coupons per week (and still use coupons to shop) and we weren't eating fast foods anymore. Once the kids were in school I started to work as an aid at the school so I had the same hrs as the kids and that was great. When they got in middle school I quit and stayed home permanently. Luckily my husband has a good job and can support all of us comfortably. It is a big decision but one I never regretted. Both girls are in college now on full scholarships and I hope that was due to the extra time I spent with them and their studies. Good Luck to you.

You didn't give us much info to go on, so here's my genreal suggestions. .

    1) examine your reason for working. If you are working for personal reasons, consider volunteering so you have the flexibiblity you want and the mental stimulation you need. If you are working for financial reasons, examine your costs (ie childcare, wardrobe, gas, education etc) vs. earnings and benefits. You may want to consider a job that has hours similar to your children's school schedules if you have very young kids.

    2) weigh the pros and cons of both. Talk with your family that will be affected by your decision.

    3) Make your decision based on what is best for your family and don't worry about what others tell you. No matter what you choose to do, you are likely to feel guilty at some point about your choice. (When I am working, I want more time with them. When I am not working, I want the money to give them more opportunities etc)

Work at home. I am a medical transcriptionist and I work at home. I do not have children yet, but many of my co-workers do, and it works very well for them. I went to school on-line while I continued working. I graduated in less than a year and now I make more money than I ever imagined.

I'll tell you what....I had a job and a 2 yr.old at the time...My mother was very nice too us and we lived with my Dad and Mom...she watched him while I worked....

But too be HONEST! I feel i should of waited til my son was in school to go to work...I think at these years a child needs their OWN MOTHER!

Then if you need to work..wait til the kids are in school and work around them IF possible!

If you can afford to, stay at home. You'll reget the time NOT spent with them years later.
