What causes racism? Lack of education?? uh-huh!?

Read this question and then the answer from Nicole...What cause a person to be so ignorant and to make the crazy assumptions that she does? This is racism at it's best!! And I bet she would be the FIRST to holler for equal right for females! This is racism at it's best...but better yet, it is ignorance at it's best. Nicole...welcome to the year 2000!!!!!!!!! This is not the 40's or 50's any more. It's not hip to be racist...especially when you are a severely uneducated person such as yourself.

Update:

Oh....and by the way, I am not from Africa nor am I an African American. My skin color is white but that does not determine my inteligence.

Update 2:

I like the answers so far...

Yeah I guess...well I know you are right. It's not just the uneducated like Nicole but many others including the well educated that are racist. On behalf of America I would like to offer an apology.

Update 3:

Oops, here is the link to the question and answer from Nicole I was talking about...

Educated, ignorant media that keeps it in your mind every time you read or watch the news.

Nicole's question, by the way was not raciest, it was a legitimate question and she had a valid point

What is racism? Is it only a white thing? First of all, I think everyone is racist, all colors and peoples. Sure, there are exceptions to the rule, there might be someone out there who isn't but everyone deep down inside is to some degree. I spent alot of time all over the world and have been around all skin colors and I have experienced first hand, all people are racist to some degree. Japanese hate blacks and whites who are in Japan to some degree. Hawaiins hate whites. Arabs hate Jews and vice versa. Asians hate everything non asian, ever been to a Pai Gow poker table? The race of people who have giving the most money, time and effort are white europeans. See, here I say something proud of my own race and do you call that racist? That's why I say what is racism? There is reverse discrimination all over the place. Don't forget, even though the Germans killed jews, hundreds of millions of other white european, American and Russians fought to stop them. Even though a very small amount of whites and jews owned slaves in America, remember all races have been enslaved. The word Slave comes from Slav, who are white people. The israelites were enslaved by the Egyptians and blacks enslave blacks TODAY in Africa. Despite that, during the civil way hundreds of thousands of whites died to free the slaves. What is racism?

Everyone is guilty, I heard a mexican shout profanity at whites and tell us it is our duty to die... I have seen blacks attack whites for no reason other than they are white. I have rarely if ever seen a white express outward racism towards another race and if anything whites are the ones who are the missionaries, the ones who poured money and effort into Katrina.

I would gather that if you are white, you are a student at the current time and have never been outside of your comfort zone or in another country or part of town where you are the minority... Grow up kid. You have to define racism before you can understand what causes it, I have a feeling your definition of racism is that only whites are racist... What college are you attending or have you just graduated from? You will have your eyes opened to reality, not what the school system have brainwashed you with for your very short life. I would bet dollars to donuts you are a college boy... No?

Sorry, bud. Nicole made a valid point. That kid was from Africa, and probably the only kid in the whole school who'd ever been there.

But -- yup, I'd fire the principal. That award was intended to be awarded based on racial discrimination, and shame on the school administration for allowing such malarkey. It would be far better to have an award for "outstanding math student" or "outstanding metal shop student" or even "outstanding athlete."

I have no clue who Nicole is, and since you didn't provide a link, I have not way of finding her posts with the volume of messages on here.

But racism is created usually by the environment. It's a learned behavior.

A good example is the McDonald's playground. Most kids at McDonalds see another kid and just like playing with them. They really could care less what color or race they are...all they see is that kid is someone to play with.

As we get older we learn behavior from our surroundings. Our family or the people we hang around with may start to shape our viewpoints on racism. And then when a person who is of a particular race makes a mistake or does something a person doesn't agree with, they see them as a "typical" person of that race so it reinforces their thoughts. Never mind that he or she may have encountered 100 people before that person who were wonderful people of that race. All they see are the negatives and they get tunnel vision on that particular isssue. Take for instance, when we describe a person: we often say: a man in his 30s and assume he's caucasian, but if he is any other race, we describe him as a black man in his 30s, or an oriental man in his 30s or a Muslim in his 30s, etc.

Personally I'll be glad when we adopt Morgan Freeman's policy: where we stop thinking of a person as a Jewish person or a Black person or a White person. We just think of them as a person.
