Should the MLB adopt instant replay for scoring?

I agree with you ~ No instant replay!

It would somehow change the feeling , the realness of baseball.

Besides, I love to see the managers throwing a fit!

Tennis' U.S. Open has allowed the players a certain number of challenges to calls during matches. Because of this, there have been FAR LESS arguments from either side. A computer system "replays" the shot to gauge where the ball lands. Although it is not video, per se, it does allow a check/balance system for officiation. Could this apply to baseball? Maybe or maybe not. Computer sytems could help put the strike zone or foul lines in check, but what about everything else?

It may work if each manager was allowed a certain number of challenges a game. There should also be video officiators on hand to keep the game moving. It would take too long to have the umpires walk over to the monitor.

My overall feeling is that if the commissioner's cry is to ensure that umpires get the call right while maintaining better umpire/player/manager relations, then this could only help.

I think it's plausible, but it should be tested in other leagues first.

We are talking baseball. Almost any close play can be re-watched and a ruling made before anybody even asks for one. No need to delay the game. We need merely for a manager or an ump to wave at the official scorer to give their opinion or better yet yank one of the umps off the field. Set him in a booth near the dugout with voice com to the umps out on the field and decisions could be relayed before any contraversy happened. What delays the game is players and managers out there protesting. If instant replay were an automatic part of every call there would be no delay and far more accuracy. The umps won't be second guessed except on really tight calls that are inconclusive from the camera viewpoints. Every call would have an ump watching for accuracy. The umps, the players and the fans will all feel better I think. Games will go faster. So why not use an ump in a booth?

What I really want to see is balls and strikes done by lasor. This would allow for many pitchers to have great success and make "great" pitchers live up to thier reps. No more blind umps. The call being automatic and allowing for a greater variety of breaking balls thus challenging the hitters even more. It'd also mean hitters could not fake out the strike zone as it'd be set independent of thier current stance based on thier physiique and programmed in. This alone would speed up the game tremendously and add accuracy to the game. The home plate ump would have the tally in a special eyepiece and would call it like in the old days. He'd also be there for plays at the plate, to rule fair/foul, infield fly rule and such.

Remember the primary goal of the ump is to be as impartial and fair as possible. If electrical aids help them do that then it's to the benifit of the game.

How often is there a miss call,other than strikes and balls.

It would just delay it longer,from 3 hours to 4 hours,yikes.

I am not sure how you would effectively implement instant replay in baseball. In a sport like football or hockey, instant replay has been fairly effective and useful. I am not sure this would be the case with baseball.

the MLB should use it for everything other than the strike zone. Technology can prevent mistakes that the umpires eyes miss once in a while. Why not take advantage of it?

Hell Yeah. A lot of games you see are screwed up because of an bad call by an umpire. Especially in the Playoffs.

Yes! As well as other sports so there would be less fuss over questionable plays scors or anything else falling in thoses lines.
