I have seen a lot of people asking what the point/meaning of life is-why do you think this question is popular

I have seen this question quite a few times since I have been on here, and am intrigued. If you have any ideas/opinions on this, please feel free to say. Thanks

Update:

I have just read thru the first few answers, and there is some interesting thoughts, thanks. I guess I also wondered why people wish to ask it on a forum like this. Why do people feel more comfortable asking a whole bunch of strangers anonymously, than asking someone they know? are 'they' asking people they know as well, and where else would people ask this question?

If anyone who has asked it sees this, I'd be interested to know your thoughts. Also, how did your responses help/affect you? Thanks

We need to know why we came into this world. What is our purpose here on earth?

We were created to love and worship God.

Just Because : "sometimes I despair, At who I've become, I have to come to terms, With what I've done , The bittersweet taste of fate, We can't outrun the past, Destined to find an answer,

A strength I never lost, I know there is a way, My future is not set,

For the tide has turned , But still I never learned to live without regret."

& also : "I tried to murder the lonely, Contemplate our mortality.

    Into infinity, Frozen memory

Wipe the tears from yesterday, A time for change, take the pain away. Angel, my destiny, Can you feel me?"

& the masterpiece : "We are just a moment in time,

A blink of an eye, A dream for the blind, Visions from a dying brain, I hope you don't understand"

    Got it ??? hope not...:D

Especially for a lot of young people, (whether you have religion or not), it is probably a big question sitting in their mind. When I was a teen, I thought that same question. Because when you're young you have no direction. You are unsure of your future. I believe only the person asking can answer the question to themselves. Only you know that answer for your life. Sometimes it takes a while, but you will get it. It will be staring you in the face when you least expect it.

I believe that they ask this question often because no one understands the God concept and the purpose of why they are here. They want to know what is it that God wants for there life. I've seen this question in other categories. People just want to know why are bad things happening to them and what is the point of living here on Earth when there seems to be no purpose. I always tell them if the question arises that God has a greater plan for their lives and they must search and walk on the spiritual path and not look to ungodliness but reaching for the ultimate goal that God has set for them for their lives.

the popularity of this question stems from the fact we all have own interpretations of what life means to us. this is so open that no answer we have is definitive, nor is it neccesarily right or wrong. each of us have own different experiences; we live our lives according to how we feel, how we go about doing things and how we perceive people, particuarly our friends, family and collegues at work, college and university. for me, life is the one chance we have in ourselves and that its our duty to make the best out of it. we have to do whatever it takes to make sure that by the time we pass away we can look back and say to ourselves, yes i've done this, i've done that, achieved this and that to name.

and the whole process of life is to make mistakes and to learn from them. to have suffered is better to have not suffered. to get knocked down, only to get back up again. this is what life is partly about. its a learning process. we learn things as we go along and as we get older.

therefore, for me the way i see it is that life knows no bounderies. yes there will be few obstacles that get in our way but its only by overcoming them that we can move on and face the next one that comes in our way.

ok the question is asked often because we are curious beings and want to know the purpose for our existance. it is awnsered alot because we all have different oppinions on the meaning of life. i think this makes life intresting as there is no one true meaning to our lifes. it is what u make of it . every being even hitler, bush ,sadam etc have a purpouse in life. and this does not just includes humans.it includes everything from thouse tiny invisible particles in the air to the huge mountains and volcanos formed on this planet. if even 1 of thouse things didnt exist life would be very diff

There are certain questions which are common, which are guarenteed to get answers / responses. Someone new to yahoo answers may want to see how people respond, test to see how asking questions work, without actually haveing a questison. So, they put a gernal question, this is as good a general question as any.

Without God, there doesn't seem to be any point/meaning to life, is what I think. So, people who don't have God have got to be searching for some sort of replacement.

It must be hell, to be a reasonably intelligent individual who believes that everything he is will be dust one day, and his life has no point or meaning at all.

Read Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor E Frankl, it's a good book and explains why people need to feel their life has a greater purpose.
