Scoliosis information?

At a recent check-up my doctor had my daughter get x-rays done because she might have scoliosis. Of course i was freaked out, she is only 12. The x-rays showed she had a 4 degree curve to her spine, not enough to worry about, but she needed to be checked again in 6 months. Should i be worried? Does anyone have any information on this, what i mean is what are the chances of it getting worse? she's 12 so isn't she done growing? Any information will help

I'm no expert but I have scoliosis. When I was a kid they did not routinely check for scoliosis. When my daughter's were born, doctors did check for it. It is better treated as a child while the spine is still growing, in adulthood it becomes more difficult. It's not debilitating nor causes deformaties unless it's severe and left untreated. No you should not be worried at this point, chances are she won't need further treatment. Just follow up with her doctor.

Done growing? Shes only 12. Shes got alot of growing to do. I would think the doc would have given her some exercises to do to help the curve in her spine.

Id keep an eye on it. I watched a program on this and they had to put a steel rod in this little girls back becuz it was going to be debilitating as she grew.

Im not saying this is whats gonna happen to YOUR daughter, but this does happen if it progresses.

I was also diagnosed with scoliosis around that same age, maybe a little older. It didnt get any worse and the doc gave me exercises I could do. Thats probly why it never got worse.

Dont worry about it too much. But DO get her checked in 6 months.
