R & B Song from the late 90's?

There was this R & B song that came out around 1998-1999. It was sung by a female and it was kind of mid-tempo. The lyrics went something like...

well, I never caused you sorrow and I never caused you pain, so why you wanna leave me here standing in the rain and I never told your secrets and I never told you lies, so why you wanna walk away telling me bye bye. Bye Bye!

I have looked all over the net by using the lyrics I know but I have found nothing. Does anyone know the artist and title of the song? I have been searching for years, please help!!!

Update:

It's not Prince, I own the Purple Rain album and that's not the song. It is most definitely a woman, her voice is kind of deep it makes her sound kind of older than someone like Monica, sounds a little like Angie Stone but I am not for sure if it is.

Although the first line does sound like a Prince song, it is not. The rest of the words are toooooo far off.
