Has this theory been proven?

I am currently 16 weeks pregnant (4 months).

I want to know, if I keep my mind (brain) occupied with intelligent things, like reading & watching discovery channel for example, can this transfer to my baby?

If this theory has been proven, can someone please help find reading material on this subject.

If this theory has not yet been proven, is there anyone a scientist or psychologist maybe that would like to help me, and take this journey with me, so we can explore the concept?

Can't help you find proof, other than that my own mother did nothing but read and play scrabble while she was pregnant with me and I came out with excellent reading comprehension skills, a practically intuitive spelling ability, and a phenomenal vocabulary. Besides, what can it hurt? You're learning things and becoming more cerebral, which will influence how you raise your child as well, so be it nature or nurture it's still going to work.

P.S. ignore that guy above me

No, there is no theory proving or even disproving this for that matter, but i think it is very unlikely though. When a baby is conceited the only connection between the baby and the mother is through the umbilical cord, through this, the only things that passes through it are blood, hormones and nourishment, there is no way that a baby's intelligence and cognitive abilities can increase simply because the mother has decided to be more of an intellect, not even if she reads the entire encyclopedia, it's just biologically impossible. There is some connection though, and it has been proven that the baby while it is inside the womb it can hear and to some extent interact with the outside world, especially through music which is why some mothers put headphones on their stomachs, the babies will at some point, before birth develop clear auditory abilities so they will hear the stimulus, this is said to increase to their appreciation towards music as well as other things in relation to it, like mathematics, writing, art, etc.... Check the website bellow, it's pretty good with informationin relation to this. Hope this helps.

There is no proof, scientific or testimonial that comes close to even suggest a thing might be true. Anyone who tells you there is proof is LYING.

Also the idea that because you are older your child will be smarter because you are smarter is so incredibly dangerous that it is almost criminal to suggest such a thing. The older a woman gets the higher her chances of having a baby with a major birth defect. And there are only a jillion studies out there that prove that.

No matter what people tell you their is no proof of a magic psychic link between mothers and their children. Even if their is one it is a minor one. I think much like it is better for the child's health if the mother is healthy, I think it is better for the child's emotional well being if the mother is emotionally okay. But it is silly to think that because the mother is doing "intelligent things" while pregnant, the child will be born smarter.

The theory has proven many times over. The pregnant mothers mind should have good thoughts. She should speak of good things and hear good things ( good here means God. It is because without god there in no creation. If the mothers keeps listening to good classical music the new born child will become attentive to good music. If mother listens to sermons on God the child becomes a devotee right from young age. The out look of the child will depend on the mental state of mother at the time of pregnancy. If you see discovery chnnel the child will be addicted to TV from birth.)

Keeping your mind busy translates into not worrying about things thus not stressing yourself out. Stress on the mother during pregnancy has been known to affect the unborn child while mothers who are happy and almost stress free have been known to have healthy happier babies. Be happy and your baby will be also.(Hopefully) P.S. Congratulations!

it has not been proven but there does seem to be a corrolation between the age of the mother and the aptitude of the baby. the older you are the smarter your baby can become.

reading to your child exposing him to music...classical has been indicated in research to fire up the neuro transmitters talking to and with your child even singing has been associated with well adjusted emotionally secure infants and a fine start to further emotional as well as mental and artistic development. all forms of music but especially positive music..balanced emotional development..their will be an inherent genetic as well as emotional link you share with your child...the quest for knowledge, gathering intelligence, seeking and absorbing positive energy is a great thing for every mother to strive for...

Not only has it been NOT PROVEN, it's largely been discredited. What you do after the child is born is what important
