Has anyone ever had to disect a cat for a Bio class?

I did research and found out these cats are raised on a farm for this purpose alone. Also, many are captured off the street and put in gas chambers and shipped to the U.S. I am very disturbed by this. Anybody else have any input on this?

Update:

I had to do this in 2 of my bio classes and it really didn't help when understanding the human body.

No but I've dissected a frog, rat and human. The only one I do not regret is the human because at least he had a choice in the matter.

I find the idea that these animals are bred to be killed and dissected really morbid. Watched a movie the other day and they were doing a frog dissection but the frogs were still alive, REALLY SICK HEY!!!

Source(s): Hey jcj (or whatever your name is) I really had to do a human dissection for my human anatomy course...it is standard for and degree in the health profession!

At the high school where I teach, the Jrs. and Srs. in the anatomy course dissect a cat. Where the cats come from, I have no clue. Personally, I don't see the problem in this, isn't it better that they have some use other than just being gassed and put in the garbage dump?

I go to a University in Louisiana.... I will have to disect the cats pretty soon. I saw them all tightly packaged in those plastic seal things... It's so sad :( Anyway where did you find out about where they were raised?? I am not looking forward to this.. we also have to skin them ewww

I think the highest ambition a stray cat could have in their life would be to serve the pursuit of scientific understanding.
