Can anyone give me a comforting bible quote for a family who just had a devastating death?

Isaiah 25:8

"He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord God will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the rebuke of his people shall he take away from off all the earth: for the LORD hath spoken it."

edit: I agreed with most of what ca_rissa said except the part where she said we shouldn't embrace grief. Grief is a natural thing to experience so I do not think it should be ignored. Remember that Jesus wept when Lazarus was dead.

John 11:32-36

"Then when Mary was come where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.

When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping which came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled,

And said, Where have ye laid him? They said unto him, Lord, come and see.

1 Thessalonians 4:13:

13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.

14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

1 Corinthians 15:54-55:

54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.

55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?

Certainly, grief and sorrow are natural emotions that we all experience when we lose someone or something and it is not wrong to feel it at the time a loss or tragedy occurs. However, it is wrong to embrace these emotions as Christians. Just like it is not wrong to feel fear when we are in danger; however, it is wrong to embrace fear because it will destroy our faith. We must not embrace grief either, as the above scripture tells us to "sorrow not."

Psalm 46:1-10

...1 God is our refuge and strength,

A very present help in trouble.

rev 20:14 And death an hades were hurled into the lake of fire this means the second death the lake of fire

The Footprint poem:

FOOTPRINTS IN THE SAND

One night a man had a dream.

He dreamed he was walking along the beach

with the Lord.

Across the sky flashed scenes from his life.

For each scene,

he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand.

One belonged to him, and the other to the Lord.

When the last scene of his life flashed before him,

he looked back at the footprints in the sand.

that many times along the path of his life,

John 14 tells us that Jesus has gone ahead of us and prepared a place for us. The family can be comforted by knowing that where their loved one has gone, Jesus has blazed the trail, and is waiting with open arms.
