Is the Selective Service unfair to women?

This week I turned 18 and had to sign up for Selective Service or the draft and on the form where it asked for my gender it had a note next to it saying females can't sign up for the draft. If women are really equal how come they don't have to worry about being drafted. Is it because the average woman is to weak fight or is there some other logic behind it.

This is a tough question because no matter how you answer it someone will be offended. So I'll be wishy-washy and say yes and no.First the yes. There are some women out there that I would much rather have covering my backside in a war then some men I know. The are just as patriotic as men as some are tougher then men, maybe not physically but mentally and some battles are won mentally.I have hunted with some women that can gut a deer, filet a fish and never blink a eye.Now for the no.I did say some women and I am not being sexist here but the physical part of it does play a big part in a soldier life. When you say "selective service",they do not seperate the above women from the "ordinary women and that might be a problem. It's engrained in men that there job is to defend so it's easier to accept that role. It's not easy going through the physical part of the service let alone seeing your friend, buddy or just another soldier getting killed whether it be man or woman but the men seem to do a better job of it.And just to touch on one other item that maybe you never thought of and not trying to be funny but female POW's face a worst time then men do and maybe the that is another reason.I hope this helps.

it is based on cultural ideals and gender segregation. Hell, i was recently reading a government report and it was still using gender bias language..

I'm all for equality for all genders and sexes and nongender etc.

I'm completely against the draft. If someone is drafted, it means they didn't volunteer, which means the government is asking them to fight in a war they don't believe in, which means the government has stopped being of the people, by the people, and for the people.

I'd be less worried that women aren't getting drafted, and more worried about the fact that men still are.

    PS men get raped

in greece(rome? crap i forgot) they often assigned male lovers to the same troops because they recognized that if ones lover was in danger on the battle field they would each fight even fiercer for one another.

If someone has kids, they wouldn't draft both (or more than two) of the parents anyway.

Also, the mindset comment someone made about men have a mindset for it generally more so that women, that is culturally constructed. if culture taught us differently, it would be differently. men, women, as well as other genders, suffer from PTSD.

Its sexism, and its genderism [and yes, there is a difference]

My sociology teacher puts it this way:

    - a man can produce a child in a matter of seconds

    - a woman must carry the child for months and is limited to the number she can have

Also men are naturally stronger than women. That's not a sexest statement it's a fact. Many of the tasks in the military are better performed by males. Women have different hormones so the yelling, continuous physical stress, and the hard attitude is better suited for males.

    Hell NO!!

Some jobs are better left to men! This is DEFINITELY one of them! I want no part of it! This is one situation where I actually support the sexism!!

Think of all the single mothers. If both men and women were drafted, who would mind the children? Also, you know many of our enemies would LOVE to rape us!
