Is Halloween "evil?"?

some people get too serious about Halloween, it is a time to dress up, have fun and get candy. and that is all good.

I like candy.

when my kids were small we always took them. later they went with their friends.

a pirate sounds like fun. have a good time and be safe.

The true intent was to allow the spirits of the dead to come back. Ghosts are supposed to be against Christian belief. Why do they celebrate it? Because we are living in a consumer driven country. It's an opportunity for people to make money. It's the same reason Christmas is so exploited nowadays. It's the beginning of friggen October and I already see Christmas themes everywhere. No one cares why they celebrate it. They just don't want to be the only ones NOT to celebrate it.

I celebrate it by watching all the Halloween specials and buying Halloween PJ's and underwear that I wear year round. It's my favorite part of being a corporate drone.

bore.....no halloween is not evil...its just another day. Evil comes in all type of forms I dont see how kids using their imaginations and having a good time is evil...but it could be twisted as anything else could. I believe that Catholics call it "all saints day" but being that the idea of saints (as it is used in catholocism) is unbiblical I doubt there is any true christian holiday there. Christmas however does celebrate the birth of out Lord Jesus Christ...i dont know what pagan holiday may have coincided at the same round about time because Im obviously not a pagan.

Thanks for the information...dont really mean anything to me but thanks just the same. Like I said Im not a pagan Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Our Lord Jesus Christ to me...thats what christmas is...no matter what pagan holiday or holidays being that they worship everything they can happen at the same time.

As for the costume I think I will go as Elvis again... :)

No Halloween or Samhain (sow-un) it falls between the Fall Equinox and the Winter Solstice. It marks the end of the Pagan Scared year.

Is not "evil" it is a Pagan holiday, it is actully our New Year, it is a celebration. We honor those that have passed on. Many of us have great fests and yes may of us do dress up.

But seriously, I celebrate Ostara instead. Hooray for the southern hemisphere. It usually involves getting invited to a costume party (For yes, All hallows has spread) getting drunk and trying to sow some wild oats. As it should go.

And this year I'm thinking of going as Raoul Duke.

as for halloween. looks to me like the Chrisitan church gave me a perfetly good excuese to teach kids how to get something for nothing and have a damn good time doing it.

the Pagan holiday that is around the same time as Christmas is the Winter Solstice or Yule.

both of which were celebrated by decorating evergreen trees and the giving of gifts to loved ones.

as for dressing up, i will probally be UGGGGHHH Nail-In-Foot again this year. he is a barbarian warrior and my medieval garb fits him well. and the kids like him.

Halloween is sometimes associated with the occult. Many European cultural traditions hold that Halloween is one of the liminal times of the year when the spiritual world can make contact with the physical world and when magic is most potent (e.g. Catalan mythology about witches).

No, its just good fun...evil is all in perspective...and i say no...relgion has versions....and people pick and chose to follow what they will so really no religion is the same no follower is the same....I will always let my kids trick or treat and have fun!

I love Halloween and I don't think it's evil. There's going to be a kid's Halloween party at my college that I'm going to volunteer at and I'm going to a party with some friends a couple of days after Halloween. Haven't decided what I'll be yet.
