If Iraq never had WMD's, who gassed the Kurds?

If Saddam Hussein didn't intend to obtain and use WMD's, why did he have two members of his cabinet responsible for WMD development and deployment?

It is a know fact that the Iranians did the gassing of halabja killing 5000 kurds. It is convenient to blame Iraqi for that. Politics is a big whore.

"Retired Army War College prof. and CIA analyst (6 years) answers questions ranging from the gassing of the Kurds in Halabja [Iraq was not responsible, nor was it genocide by the Iranians], to Israel's push for war on Iraq; and the "chief enemy of the peace movement, the media."

Americans believe what the want, you're a racist if you love the Confederacy or its flag, Saddam did this or that. The CIA reports that Saddam did not gas the Kurds! If you do not believe that file a Freedom of Information Request, see FOIA site below it fills out the request for you (I did -he didn't). But see for your self!

Saddam gassed the Kurds in the *1980s* when Reagan was in power. And what did he do about it? Saddam didn't have WMDs in 2003 when your bone-headed war was launched. Get your timeline straight.

I agree that Saddam had to go, but the term WMD is for weapons with far greater devastation like everything else politicos go for broad terms so that it's difficult for the little guy to get a handle on it

that doesn't make it any less heinous. Fry him and his buddies before that country tears itself further apart. My problem is where are all the moderate Muslims especially in America i don't believe the radicals represent this religion, but the silence of the mainline moderates certainly make it hard to believe that the moderates here aren't afraid of their own people. If that's true, we get to watch our country tear itself apart.

A feeble attempt at trying to point out that Saddam was trying to gas Iran. (An earlier answer). Saddam gassed the Kurds because they were trying to mount an overthrow of the government and get rid of Saddam. He gassed them to show them who was in charge. The reason Saddam knew about the attempted overthrow is he invited Arabs into the region in the 80s to act as his eyes and ears. He knew he was disliked there and tried to stay clear.

Careful, you will confuse the Demorats with the facts. They have great trouble with the truth. Why will the truth that Russia moved the WMD to Syria not come out in the Lib press? SIX transport planes full were moved just days before we invaded. Source. The Russian general who was in charge of the operation.

The USA sold Saddam Hussein Anthrax to use against the Iranians.

Of course, they had weapons of mass destruction. They knew that we were coming and moved them somewhere in Syria. I am no Bush fan but he spoke the truth on this. Saddam Husein gassed the Kurds, Who else? Get real.

He had them, used them against Iran and stopped their army cold. Iran called a cease fire when numerous soldiers were killed. Saddam also used the gas against the Shites in an uprising after he cleared it with the US to do it. He had them but would he or could he deploy them against the US? He had no intention. Matter of fact tapes of his cabinet meetings played recently at his trial talks about him trying to warn the US that we were going to be attacked. He stated to his cabinet officials he wanted the US to know that when they are attacked, it is not him that did it. The tapes were years before 9/11.

To quote Colin Powell in 2000, "Iraq does not have weapons of mass destruction and is in no way a threat to the US."
