As far as producing eggs, how do the ovaries work?

I heard that ovaries produce eggs at random instead of rotating. So, an ovary can produce an egg one month then the next month that same ovary might produce an egg again. If this is so, if you have only one ovary then your chances of that one producing an egg is less than 50%. Yes, you have a 50% chance each month that your ovary will produce an egg. However, if you look at the wide scope, like the scope of a year, its less than 50% of the time a particular ovary might produce anything. Am I understanding it right? How does that work?

I'm asking because I have endometriosis and I have an ovary removed. I'm trying to conceive and I'm trying to figure out my chances each month. My delay may just be an issue of that ovary not producing an egg yet and not another problem on me or my husbands behalf.

Hope I explained myself clearly. Thank you in advance.

As you have only one ovary, it is only that one which is ovulating. Your ovaries respond to hormones from the pituitary gland in the brain each month as part of your menstrual cycle. Having only one ovary left should not reduce your chances for conception, any more than a man with one testicle is less potent.

The follicular stimulating hormone (FSH) level is important, and you can get this measured in a blood test. Otherwise, your one and only ovary will produce an egg each month, so don't worry.

Your math is flawed, as it only means women with two ovaries may not alternate monthly as to which ovary will produce an egg follicle, but that some months one ovary will produce one consecutively, instead of alternating. But, every month, at least one ovary will ovulate. That means every month you ovulate 100% of the time, not 50%. The hormones act on whatever follicle is 'ripest'. Since you have only one ovary that can be affected by FSH, it will ovulate every month, as each ovary has hundreds of egg follicles available.

Ummm..you are born with a certain amount of eggs. They are not produced like, oh lets say sperm. Once a female hits puberty, their bodies start dropping the eggs.

I also have one ovary due to an ectopic pregnancy that ruptured and got pregnant 3 months after having the ovary removed.

It really depends on your body, usually the ovary that is left will take up the slack. If you are trying tho and only have 1 period every 2 months you will have to do some calculating. Try harder on the months you will be having a period.

    Good Luck

Actually the ovaries do not produce eggs. Women are born with a certain am out of eggs and one or more are released every month when a woman starts to menstruate, unlike men who are able constantly produce sperm.

Don't worry girl, God's amazing creation shows here. If you are missing one ovary, the other one will pick up the slack and produce an egg each month.

IVF (in vitro fertilization) treatment; IUI, ICSI and Laparoscopic surgery is very cheap in India. The cost is very low and the medical services are very good in India.

My cousin and her husband got their IVF treatment in India through the Forerunners Healthcare in India and is all praise for this company. She is a known case of PCOS.She is a very happy mother of a baby boy now. She just paid 2500 pounds for the full IVF treatment in India for which she was quoted 8000 pounds in private setup in UK.

Forerunners Healthcare is very famous in India. I read a lot about them in the newspapers. I have also read about a Chinese couple who planned surrogacy through the Forerunners Healthcare. They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery and infertility treatment like IVF, IUI, and ICSI abroad for low price. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that surgery and treatment can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

    Hope this helps.
