All you level 3 people (and above) -- why do you do it?
For all of you who have answered hundreds of questions with thoughtful, thorough answers, I have two more questions for you.
(1) Why do you do it?
(2) How many hours per week do you spend looking for questions, researching answers and typing them in?

I do it because I discovered the site by accident, saw that I could answer some of the questions, and discovered I found it kind of a mental challenge to try to think up the best answer. Sometimes I scan for the questions that require a one-word, factual, answer (like "what's a good thing to use to remove rust stains") and whip off a few answers. Then I may scan for some of the less easy-to-answer questions and try to think up the best answer. I tend to scan for questions when I want to take a break from something else I'm doing on the computer or else if I have to wait for something to happen (for example, the egg noodles to cook). Sometimes I go on this site when I'm listening to music at the end of my very long day.
Since the harder and more serious questions I choose to answer are questions I can answer from what I already know about the subject I don't research anything at all. Once and I while I may do a quick search to provide a link to a "legitimate" site that will back up what I have said.
I type almost as quickly as I think, so even my long answers don't take me any longer than they would if, say, I were with the person in person and offering my input in conversation. A really long answer may take me ten or twelve minutes. Occasionally, if I have more to say I'll leave the question on the computer and add a few lines over the course of time and as I think of them. This is rare for me, though.
You know, when a person has a bunch of stuff in their life - a job, a house to clean, a yard to rake, kids in school or college, other family and friends, bank accounts, maybe lawyers, maybe cars to get repaired, pets, etc.; it can be a healthy thing to escape from the same stuff and get one's mind on something entirely different or to try to offer some kind of answer that makes that person feel as if he/she has done yet one more thing that is, in some tiny way, maybe a small contribution.
A busy life may be a very fulfilled one or not, but a busy life means a stressful life; and one of the best ways a person can keep stress from getting to him/her is to get his/her mind off the stuff he/she is all wrapped up in and thinking about someone else or trying to help someone else. This site offers a little mental exercise, and everyone can benefit from exercising his/her mind once in a while. (Some people do crossword puzzles or play Solitaire or do something like that....)
I think between the intermittent short "stints" on here and the once or twice a week when I may use up a hour or two while watching television or listening to music, one to five hours a week. A person can have even "legitimate" television (PBS) on, be going through e.mail, waiting for something to finish cooking and/ or for the spin cycle and/or waiting up for a son or daughter to come home and/or waiting for phone calls and/or waiting for their hair to dry and/or working on something else on the computer all at the same time - so figuring out hours just devoted to Answers can be tricky.
I sometimes, too, have a day like the one I had yesterday, which was so busy and left me exhausted; so I decide to waste an afternoon, as I've done today, by pretty much vegetating. There's only so much vegetating a person can do before becoming bored, though.
Well, my noodles are done. So is the casserole they're in. So is my answer here.

Yes, your concept could absolutely discourage such train, could make it extra tricky. It turns out a few humans consider facets and quantity of great solutions are very fundamental matters and wast their time utilizing trolls. On the opposite hand, it's going to avoid an informed who has simply joined YA from vote casting. But besides, this would possibly not make sure a well reply might be selected, notably in Science and Math class. For the next causes: one million) Frequently, the asker does not understand what solutions are correct, does not have ample competencies to pass judgement on that's the great, and chooses a incorrect reply. And mostly simply chooses a buddy's reply. two) I consider so much electorate aren't taken with picking a well reply, however simply in incomes facets. So, many prefer an reply at random. Hard to realize, however actual. three) Nothing assures that electorate are able to prefer a great reply. Anybody can vote at any class. The alternative isn't made via a board of gurus. Of direction, this issues does not occur while the asker is any person particularly interested within the area and has ample competencies.

I mostly give answers. I only answer if I know the answer. So no research time. I would say I spend 5-6 hours a week answering questions. Like now when I am not tired enough to go to sleep. It is kinda addicting.

its not really that hard for me to do,,actually i look down the question list,,if i see a question i think i can answer then i go into it but sometimes when i do there's more info that would lead me not to answer so i back out. i don't answer just for the points ..i spend about 20-30mins on the computer all together with regular emails and pop in here now and then.I've been doing ANSWERS since April and I'm barely getting to level 4,,,,but I've seen lots of levels 3-4 and they've been doing this half the time as myself.....now those people are quick!!!!!

(1) If I can help someone out by answering their question and giving them my advice or point of view. then why not?
(2) I spend like no more than 5-6 hours a week.

1. It relaxes me and helps relieve stress.
2. At home I may spend 2-3 hours. At work maybe a total of
1-2 hours. Depends on how bored I am. I rarely research
answers before I answer. I have been known to look in a dictionary for the correct spelling of a word because I don't
have spell check available on my computer at work. Good thing I work in a library. lol

Im on here pretty much every day, while Im @ work & have nothing better to do. I only answer questions if I know the answer or how to help. So im not spending any time on researching anything. And I do it b/c I like to help people, I also ask questions. I wouldnt like it if noone answered them.

The amount of time I spend here is too much. I am on here every day for about 4 hours and worst of all I'm supposed to be working.
