How do hiccups work?

Just curious of how they work...not how to get rid of them.

    The hiccup mechanism is a subconscious event that is triggered by your brain saying "hey, i'm not getting enough oxygen."

    Once you start consiously thinking about something, they'll go away b/c you'll put to "sleep" the signal.

    Hiccups are caused by and air bubble forming in the lungs.
