How does air get into the space inside a bell pepper?
A bell pepper is an gourd-like vegetable that consists of an edible shell around a seed cluster. But between the seed cluster and the shell is a substantial volume that contains only air. The shell is solid matter, not porous, and a bell pepper will float on water if you haven't already taken a bite out of it. The question is: HOW DID THE AIR GET INSIDE THE SHELL?

HUH?
Well, don't forget that the pepper was once a flower. The skin is still porous, so the air is there as the pepper grows, only it does not fill up

Well, when the seed is planted in the ground and the bell pepper starts to grow there is a hole on the top of the bell pepper as a young vegtable. Then at night when everyone is sleeping a troll digs up the bell pepper and blows in it. Then when the bell pepper becomes of mature age the hole closes. Hope this answer helps.

Now you have got me.. Have grown bells all my life and never thought about that. I would think the logical answer would be that any pepper such as the bell, banana, or jalapeno..is just genetically programmed to grow that way as anything else is..I mean why does a cucumber grow solid..etc? Why do we grow as we do? Has to be genetics.

i just read your question.
so i went outside and picked one.
when i cut it open it made a sound. like my car when it's empty and i need gas. when i unscrew the cap it makes a suction noise. yeah, that noise.
vacuum packed air?
i have no idea.
it isn't air. it's space.
