Broken Toe...?

I stumped my "baby" toe, last night on a chair. I did ice it all evening. A nurse friend says it's broke & I need to tape it to the next toe. Or it will not heal but continue to rebreak. Is this TRUE? Must I tape it.

It is quite colorful today heavy into the purples,, going a 1/4 way up the side of the foot.

After haing it taped or splintted take the Homeopathic remedy ARNICA 200 and SYMPHYTUM 30 and CALC PHOS 30 thrice a day these will remove the bruising and make your bone heal faster and stronger nothing removes pain in injuries like Arnica and totally without any side effects or complications !

I was in Martial Arts and I cannot tell you how many times I have fractued my toes. The best thing you can do is ice it and tape the toe togther to give it support. Where sturdy shoes and be careful. It should heal within 4-6 weeks. The toes have so many small bones in them it is hard to know whether it is just a hairline fracture, fracture, or break without xrays. It is actually rare they would do surgery unless you had a bad break in there. Yes your toes can necome diformed or shorter after breaks and to try to keep them looking half way descent after a frcture is to do the taping. It really does help. I just recently fractured my big toe. Not fun!! PS you will probably get some good brusing going on.

This is definately true! I have been going through the same thing for 5 months now. You really should go to see your doctor, or to the emergency room, someone who can refer you to a orthopedic surgeon. I thought it wasn't a big deal to have to do what I am suggesting because people say there is nothing you can do with a broken toe...............ABSOLUTELY UNTRUE! At the emergency room I was directed to see an orthopedic surgeon, but the E.R said there was nothing to do. I was in so much pain, and really couldn't walk. The orthopedic surgeon said that there is a particular bone there by your pinky toe that in most cases usually ends up causing surgery due to the fact that it is very hard to heal that particular bone. The doctor would probably put you in a cast the way he did myself and if this doesn't work which he told me most cases wouldn't help without surgery. To make a story short I ended up having to get surgery. The doctor had to put a shunt along the side of my foot and artificial bone (which would not have been needed if the break didn't have such a bad gap) with a small gap they would do a bone graph to use for the gap usually taken from under your knee and it all gets screwed together with a screw. After like 3 days of having surgery I t felt great. You should get advice from a doctor and x-rays. GOOD LUCK...

I have broken several toes and not once have a taped it. All have healed and are working just fine. There isn't really much that a person can do with a broken toe. You are just going to have to let it heal on its own and wear loose shoes. It will be uncomfortable for a while. Sorry!

I broke my big toe before, and I used a splint (part of a tongue depresser, I think--not splintered) and some bandaging tape. I put the splint in between the big toe and the second toe and wrapped the whole thing up, just as the doctor told me to. Only needed a couple weeks to heal.

I remember this woman who said she broke her toe once and continued breaking it, so it healed all messed up.

I suggest for you to follow your nurse friend's directions. My big toe didn't suffer anything by being wrapped up and taped to the next toe with the splint in between.

I did that a long time ago and I didn't tape mine but it still healed alright. If it starts to get worse or really swells up you should probably get it x-rayed because it may be more than just your little toe.

Girl I have done that about a hundred times. Your nurse is correct make sure you tape it tight so it will not stick out I can't walk around barefoot without getting my pinky toe clipped on the side of my furniture, it truly sucks!!!

If your toe heals the wrong way it will be misshaped or will break easily again. Tape it to the toe next to it for the next two weeks.

Unfortunately that's true. I broke mine as well and had it taped, but I didn't keep it taped. My toe healed incorrectly and now it has a certain slant to it. Nothing truly noticeable but who wants to take that risk for something worse? Take care of yourself, and good luck.
