Isn't it ironic?

The home builders in the area in which I live are all publically supporting the Republican candidates (and donating lots and lots and lots of money to them) Now for the best part--a few of them have recently been nailed for hiring illegals! Does this mean that the situation with the illegals will never end? Are these donations ways to ensure that Congress will not act on any legislation that deals with illegals? Let's face it, Republicans have had control of both Houses of Congress and the Presidency for the last few years. There has to be a reason that they haven't fixed all of the countries "problems". Personally, I think it is because of donations such as the ones by the home builders. So, am I right?

Update:

Beck--I guess you didn't understand the quotes around the word "problem". I meant the issues candidates love to run off of--abortion, estate tax, immigration, and so on. Not the actual problems like the lack of and cost of health care or the education problems. Sorry for the confusion.

I'd say that's a large part of it ... donations and votes go a long way to make sure nothing gets done for the American middleclass ....

You must understand there is a bigger picture. It is naive to say we can "fix all of the country's problems" in a span of 8 years. Additionally, problems, or the lack of the resolution, cannot be blamed on one party. The truth of the matter is, it doesn't matter who is in office, or what party has more control, there are always going to be donations, always going to be problems, and there are always going to be people who try to save a buck by cutting corners.

To answer your question in one sentence: no, it is not because of donations that the problem of immigration hasn't been fixed, simply the lack of time, a proper plan of action, and the fact that is not top priority.

As long as there are people who will gain from illegal immigration, illegal immigration will continue.

Further, illegal immigration has been going on since America has been America. Most of us have ancestors who were illegal. Look at your family, or think of the stories you have heard throughout your life; the young Italian who came to America, who didn't speak a lick of English, and only had the clothes on his back and a dream. Maybe you should consider that as well.

  • It's all about being popular. if it ain't popular don't touch it. They say no but do it behind closed doors just like that Foley Guy, passed child protection laws but hitting on a 16 yr old boy. Uhhh the humanity.

Same reason that democrats had control of both houses of congress for over 40 years and haven't fixed all the country's 'problems'.

I think it's outstanding that the states are showing the integrity and intestinal fortitude to go after some of their former supporters for violation of US labor laws. It's about damn time...
