7600gs vs. 7600 gt?

A 7600gs with 512mb of ram is about the same price as a 7600gt with 256mb of ram. The ram in the gt is a newer standard and runs twice or more as fast, and the gpu has a higher clock speed. Anyone know how they compare?

The higher clock speed, the higher memory speed, the newer memory technology all spell victory for the GT. The memory bandwidth (a very important stat to look at) on the GT is 22.4 GB/s compared to 12.8 GB/s on the GS. Don't listen to anyone tell you that the extra RAM on the GS make up for its disadvantages in other categories, it doesn't.

The 7600GS is a decent card, for what it sells for, but it doesn't compare to the 7600GT. Here's a link comparing the two: http://www.hardwarezone.com/articles/view.php?id=1... As you can see, both the 7600GT and the X1600XT both are considerably faster than the 7600GS.

What you might not know is that the X1600XT is about the same price as a 256MB 7600GS, at most online retailers. Also, for slightly more than the 7600GT, you can grab an X1900GT, which is twice as fast as the 7600GT.

The 7600GT is a much better card, the core speed and number of shaders/pipelines is far more important than an extra 256mb.

Here's a breakdown of how gaming video cards compare- it's a few months old but covers most the models currently out- the thread started a couple of years ago and gets updated periodically.

The cool thing is, it explains what the 2-letter designations used by Nvidia and ATI actually mean...

this will show you a table of this fall's top graphic card selection, their approximate prices and overall factory specifications. If you want to see a difference get the 7600GT over the 7600GS. If you really want something a little nicer that's not going to KILL your wallet, then look at the 7900GS. I suggest brands like eVGA and XFX because they often come factory overclocked (faster clock speeds) and are cheaper and offer great rebates, prices, customer service and warranties. Check it out on http://www.newegg.com/ for good prices too.

This store has the 256MB 7600GS for $107.95 and 512MB for $129.95 if cost is an issue:
