I have back problems and i cant find a doctor to give me prescriptions for pain killers?
I am 26 and have had back problems for 5 years and have been to several drs but all of the drs i have been to either say i am to young to be on pain kilers or they think that im there just to get drugs for recreational use. I have had several MRI's and they say "oh its just a bulging disc everyone has those" But mine causes severe pain and causes my legs to go numb. And i dont have have a low tolerance to pain either. I can tolerate alot of pain normally but this is just excruciating sometimes. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I can assure you that I am an expert in this area and can give you good advice. During a Judo Tournament in my youth, an incompetent opponent fell on me and popped a vertibrae leaving me with great pain for a long time. These were the days when Chiropractors were almost non existant. At different times since then I have been almost paralized through heavy falls snow skiing. 1. Find a good Chiropractor who gives proper massage and preparation by warm up prior to manipulation. 2. Ask your Doctor for Indocid to deal with inflammation that causes pain. Be sure not to abuse them as they cause ulcers through misuse. 3. Your body will heal if treated properly, that is, rest, warmth, and posture. 4. Never cough when your back is arched, straighten up first. 5. Be aware always of your posture, do not slump when you sit in front of TV. 6. The best way for immediate pain relief is to stretch you back muscles by sitting hard against the wall with your legs staight out. The pressure on your spine is reduced and everything will go back into place, which may solve your problem without going through the first four steps.

Oh I totally know where you're coming from. I have an old injury in my knee where I shattered the cartillage & sometimes it's so bad I lay in bed crying. I go to the doctor & because I'm 27 they look at me like I'm just trying to scam some drugs when all I want is to be able to get a good night's sleep. Same for my needlephobia - I needed to go to the dentist to get some work done & I was so scared so I went to a doctor to ask for valium (the dentist told me to) & the doctor told me to get real, get over it & get off the drugs. She said I was a disgrace to young people & that she "didn't come down in the last shower". I rang the dentist to cancel & the dentist got angry & just prescribed it for me anyhow. It's not like I was after 50 or something, I needed 5 to get me through the 2 treatments. It's really awful how upset it can make you when someone judges you like that. All I can suggest is shop around for a decent doctor. Until such times I'd get some Mersyndol or Tylenol 3 or something - whatever the strongest over the counter meds you can get is. Best of luck - you're not on your own in this.

This isn't going to make you feel any better but one reason why your MDs are reluctant to write you pain meds is that if you are in Kentucky (as your name implies) is that your state has one of the highest rates of narcotic abuse (primarily Vicodin aka hydrocodone). Kentucky is also one of only 4-5 states that even Internet pharmacies will not send pain meds to;regardless if you have a prescription.
I understand your back pain...I fractured 3 vertebrae mountain climbing (falling actually) and was on Percocet for 8 weeks until the back brace corrected the problem. Also broke every rib on my let side in a car accident and was on prescribed Vicodin ES.
But then again....it shouldn't make any difference at 52 I have never been told I am too young!
My only suggestion. Try to find a D.O. and not an M.D. Why...DOs historically have been schooled and trained to use drug therapy in a more aggressive approach. I use to be a pharmaceutical rep for Pfizer and we loved having DOs in our territory...they were more likely to prescribe medication. Just a thought.
Goodluck....
A note to shirazzza...perhaps I misunderstood your comment but FYI - Tylenol 3 is a schedule III controlled substance and not an OTC product.

I've been going through a similar problem. You'll need to go to either an orthopedic surgeon or a neurosurgeon to determine whether it's a repairable problem. That doctor will either do a surgery, put you in physical therapy, or refer you to a pain management clinic.
They don't want pain meds to be the first solution because you develop a tolerance for them and they lose their effect. Eventually you wouldn't be able to get any relief.
They'll be able to do MRI's or catscans to decide if there's some nerve damage.
They will also put you thru a series of bending, turning, twisting movements that will let them know what nerves are involved.
Back pain is a real trial to deal with. Do anything you can before turning completely to the pain meds.
Good luck! I hope it all works out well for you.

I really empathize with you. Because of all of the drug abuse involving pain medications, doctors are reluctant to prescribe them no matter how bad your pain is. I know because I had severe back pain and the doctor prescribed "physical therapy). My pain was so severe I could barely walk, so I used some hrdrcodone that I had from before that I didn't finish, and they worked great, I told the doctor that and like you, he made me feel like a drug addict. If only they could feel the pain for 5 minutes!!!! I don't have many left, so don'tknow what to do after that. Maybe try another doctor. ANyway, good luck to you and hopefully the doctors won't force us to hit the streets buying illegal pain medications for our real pain.

Maybe you should try the dorn Therapy.
It deals with the CAUSE of the pain and not with the symptoms. Plus it is not that agressive as chiropractic mathods.
See the source section for a link explaining about this method.
Hope this helps you - It helped me!

Sound like you need to find a street corner pharmacy.
Insurance don't cover those prescriptions though....and those MRI's won't keep you out of jail if you get caught.
