I read the book, but, I haven't seen the movie. I highly reccomend it! It is a true story told by the middle daughter (she was one of 10 kids). It was inspiring to read about a woman that overcame so much and never gave up on her alcoholic husband and her children.

It sounds like "Mr. Mom" from 1983. It starred Michael Keaton and Teri Garr.

Plot summary: Jack and Caroline are a couple making a decent living When Jack suddenly loses his job. They agree that he should stay at home and look after the house while Caroline works. It's just that he's never done it before, and really doesn't have a clue... (Her job is working for an ad agency....her best one is for tuna and the boss is played by Martin Mull).
