I lived on Maui and absolutely loved it. However, unless a person has a trust fund or is a professional like a lawyer or doctor, it's too expensive to live there. A cosmetologist would be a good job, but you'd have to be licensed in HI. Some of the locals are rather discriminatory against us, whom they call Haoles.

aloha---i live in hawaii---the island of oahu---it really depends on what--where and how-----what kind of local you want (beach or mountains or town)------where(where your schools will be--or work)---and (how you will be getting around)--bus or car?
my best advice is come visit and get a feel for what area of the island you love the best--i live in aiea---central upper-scale part of the islands mountains--central 30 minutes away from almost everything---cool------anyway aloha
