I'm going to work on the assumption that you're an American, since you had very little to say in your question.

First, you need to develop a working relationship with your immediate superior if you're enlisted (team leader, section sergeant, whatever he or she may be) since you coming out here to ask such a question betrays a serious lack of trust. Your NCO should be the first person to ask for guidance on promotion matters and preparing you for either the Soldier of the Month Boards. If the NCO isn't doing this even after you request that you be trained to a higher standard, you both have issues beyond any answer given here.

Second, promotion in the Army is based on a points system that rewards military and civilian education, physical fitness, marksmanship, and both the endorsement of your Company Commander and the endorsement of your enlisted superiors in front of a Promotion Board, until you hit E-6. After E-6, it's entirely DA select.

If you want to be promoted with a waiver, you need to prove yourself physically capable, technically and tactically proficient in all Skill Level 1 tasks in your MOS, and those of Skill Level 2 and 3. You should be able to work 2 duty positions above your own given the responsibility. You should be proficient with all your assigned tasks and maintain correct military bearing and discipline. If you do correspondence courses at the Ed Center, that's fine too. But you can do zero hours on those and still get promoted.

I remind you again: Talk to the NCOs in your unit. Only they are in the place to give you the correct mentoring you need and the guidance to succeed. Everything else is up to you.

Get involved in Base Activities like church, volunteer for outreach at your headquarters unit and always dress professionally and act accordingly. Without being a pest figure out how the Company operates. Who really does what and so on. Have a ready smile and a good sense of humor.

When you encounter higher ranking Officers, always be ready to answer a question or introduce yourself if they ask you about anything like your unit assignment.

Keep your mouth shout otherwise unless it is appropriate to talk. You will be noticed.

Also, at the company level, get to know the Headquarters staff and do all the same things suggested above. Help them out. Get to know the NCO's in charge of the various units like Maintenance and Storage, Chow Hall and Motor pool. Always be friends to your team and ready to help if you have time. Good Luck

score well on your pt test, take as many correspondence courses as you can, take some college classes, go to the soldier of the month board every time one comes up. Get your 4 from your commander the classe will let you make the cutoff scores to get your 5 then the boards will help you get your 6 then your record will get you your 7

Are you enlisted or officer? Lower enlisted you just have to wait your time. I think you get PFC after a year and Specialist after 18 months if you keep your nose clean and do what you are told.
