Score 10pts. United States Army Air Corps?

Before, during, and after WW2, one United States Army Air Corps base (located in U.S.) had runways so short, that many landings ended up n the river. What base?, What river? Where is base located?

Sounds like Ladd AFB Farbanks Alaska. (now Fort Wainwright) The runway sat in a big U turn in the Chena river. So the river was at both ends of the runway.
