How will sanctions on trade in weapons and luxury goods, plus freezing the assets of companies involved in the Korean nuclear program, make people starve.

Sanctions are set to prevent the sale of weapons. The sanctions do not include basic items like food and clothing. Please go read the sanctions.

Take a look at where North Korea is spending all of its money; they aren't spending it on food. The problem with that country is that they are spending the money to improve its military strength against some imagined invasion they think the US and her allies are planning.

It is too late for North Korea. The olive branch has been offered to them on several occasions. The President openly defies the U.N. and the United States. He has ordered testing of nuclear devices. The sanctions are supposed to be such that they only effect the leader and his power base, and not the ordinary people. But you are probably right. This guy is bonkers, so noything will make him change his ways.

I don't think a nuclear deterrent will affect any of Bush's decisions either, cos he is bonkers too, and has a nice safe bunker to hide in if the worst comes to the worst.

North Korea is a threat to world peace yes, but. Kim is acting like a spoiled child who isn't being paid attention to anymore. He wants to be shown important like he makes his people live under him. If he seems weak with the rest of the world, he appears weak with his people. To them he is GOD.
