Has anyone read the ancient Sumarian texts? If so what did you make of them?

I've read some of the epic of Gilgamesh and it was suspiciously like some of the Old testament-too similar in fact to be mere coincidence.

I've read many of them, albeit translations. To be honest, it was boring reading a bunch of inventories and tax collector statements.

However, the tales and mythology are quite intriguing. I'm fond especially of the stories of the battles between Marduk and Tiamat, finding most of the later stories and tales to be quite legalistic. These were not exactly the drama-queen gods of the Greeks.

You can read them in translation. As has been stated, they are for the most part extremely boring.

Sumerian, by the way, is a language isolate, one that has not been connected to any other known language, as with the case of Basque.
