when can i take a test?

i took the 1st pill of my new pack late (does it count as late if its the 1st?) more than 12 hours after i normally do. then took the next 2 on time, then stopped taking them as we decided to try for a baby, have been having sex since, including a week away on our honeymoon ;-) problem is i'm not sure when my period is due, ive been on the pill for 7 years and was initailly put on it by my dr because of extremely irregular periods. the late pill was taken on 28th sept and last pill on oct 1st. been feeling a little odd lately but not sure if its anticipation. my mum got pregnant really easily with me and my sister, is it wishful thinking that it could be hereditary?!

basically i'm wondering when i will know if i'm pregnant - obviously the arrival of a period will tell me i'm not but how long should i wait before taking a test? i dont want to disappoint my self getting all excited about doing a test if i'm doing it too early

Getting pregnant when you come off the pill can take quite awhile or you could be lucky and become pregnant after your first period after stopping the pill. I was one of the lucky ones and am now due in two weeks. A test wouldnt be able to tell if you were pregnant yet as its to soon after you finished the pill. I know its hard but try and wait a couple of weeks and if you haven't had a period, do a test. I wish you the best of luck x

I hate to say but, you might need to be off the pill for a few months. I think if you are not taking your pill anymore then maybe when ever you would have been expecting it to come it will come maybe a day or two late. I was on the pill for the same reason. Stop taking your pill and have fun trying. Start charting how long your cycle is and it will help you know when you should be really trying. You need to figure when you are ovulating.

Also, talk to your doctor that you want to start a family they might suggest something too. Don't get discouraged. Sometimes it takes a few months.

Assume that 1st day of last bleed does count as a period. I would wait until at least the end of October before testing unless you get any symptoms- nausea, sore boobs, up in the night for the loo etc. If you have a good family planning clinic near you, you may be able to get an ovulation thermometer and chart to use which will give you an indication of what your body is up to- try not to get obsessed though- all good things come to those who wait! Good luck.

Actually each test i s different but the hormone level in your body is what triggers the test to become positive. I thought I was pregnant and had all the symptoms of being pregnant but it actually was a bladder infection which i had no clue I had but it made my period late for about 6 weeks so if something is of with your body everything is out of whack.I even went through pregnancy tests with my doctor until they figured it out.

  • Your Periods normally take a while to regulate after taking the pill especially if your's wasn't regular to start with. I have come of the pill 5 monhs ago and my period was one month late.

But if you need to know then take a test in a week they are very sensitive to the pregancy hormone. even within days of a missed period.

    Good luck.

I'd wait about two more weeks and see if you get your period. If not go invest in a home pregnancy test and see what the test results are. If the test comes back positive, congrats and go see your doctor. If not have fun with your husband as you keep trying to get pregnant.

you shouldn't bother doing a test until you have gone several weeks without taking the pill, the hormones stay in your system for quite sometime, so if it has been less than 24hrs between taking the pill, chances are you won't get pregnant after taking it for so long.

If you really want a baby, stop taking the pill altogether wait until you have your first period and try try again

If you fall pregnant it will be roughly 14-21 days after your last period when you can test.

Don't worry if you're not pregnant though - my wife had irregular periods and polysystic ovaries and we managed to get pregnant on her third cycle after coming off the pill.

    Keep on trying.

dont get your hopes up. it could take over 6 months for your body to get back to normal after being on the pill for so long.

just wait, relax and enjoy your husband xx
