Major chords sound contented. Minor chords sound apprehensive. Why?

Why do different kinds of chords have different emotional impressions on music listeners?

That's the idea of minor and major chords. I like to describe them as:

Major chords sound full while minor chords sound 'melodically false'. As you know, minor chords are mostly used in softer, more emotional songs while major chords have a much wider range.

For me it's just that semi-'false' sound of the minor chord that makes it sound 'sad' if you know what i mean.
