Of course there is nothing sacred. This surprised you? Hospitals steal the parts before the person is dead. Are you trying to suggest the system works in any way ?Why do we have so many registered sex offenders, they should of been put to death or better yet castrated

I agree with the above answer. Bail is just set to make sure the defendants in question don't flee before the trial. Clearly, the judge didn't believe they posed a serious flight risk, and so set the bail at something manageable.

I agree that what they did was a sick attempt to make money. I hope they are punished justly- but this will come after the trial, if they are found guilty by a jury of their peers. (And if they don't plead out in exchange for a lesser charge or jail time. That happens often, usually to get the lower time or just avoid a trial altogether.)

Look at it this way- they were, at the very least, indicted, and the DA has every intention of contiuing with the charges. It's not like they're going to drop it just because they made bail. Happens with criminals accused of more heinous crimes all the time.

Bail is not determined as a means of punishment. The purpose of bail is to assure that a defendant will not flee before trial or sentencing. Judges are actually prohibited from denying bail or imposing excessive bails except in cases of demonstrable flight risk.
