Who is responsible...?

...if a young child plays a violent video game, clearly marked as Mature on the box?

The makers of the video game?

Or the parents of the child, who bought him/her the game without checking to see what they were buying?

Please explain your views.

The parents. The video game makers put ratings on boxes for a reason. So that parents may know what content it entails. If they choose to buy it for their kids anyway, then they are responsible for any effects the game may have on the child.

The parents that bought the game are responsible. Unless the kid played the game at a friends house then the kid is responsible for playing something he/she knew thier parents would not approve of. The game makers have a right to make games that are geared toward adults. If the game is marked as "M" for mature, and the parents still buy it. They have only themselves to blame. But you can see a lot of worse stuff on the evening news every night.

The child, for obvious reasons. After that, the parents. The mfg'ers not at all. Naturally they have no control of items once they leave the plant. In the case of a violent video game (as opposed to something like a machine gun) I don't think they're even morally responsible for putting out a "bad" product.

And legally speaking, they've probably added enough warnings to the box to cover any eventuality.

The fact that it is marked MATURE means it cannot be sold to anyone under 18. If a kid does get his hands on it, if the parents bought it for him then only they are responsible. Even if they didn't buy it they should be monitoring what their children do. We make too many excuses as parents and use television as pacifiers so we don't have to spend as much time with them as we should. It is almost ALWAYS the parents fault! I care not what anyone else says.

The parents. Plain and simple. It's their child and they bought the game clearly marked for older kids.

Who is responsible for you wearing that silly mask? Thats a better question...

Ultimately the parents are responsible, if they approve or disapprove, they should communicate with their children so that they don't go on-line thinking they are some kind of retarded super heroes...

If I had kids, and didn't approve of a game they were playing... it wouldn't be allowed in my home... But I think thats stuff is silly, a game is only a game. No big deal!

Censorship is available and gives you an idea what has adult content and what does not. Therefore it is the parents responsibility to check and see what their children are doing what games they are playing . God bless

Obviously the parents. Actually i think those "video games" shouldn't even exist.

The parents are responsible, duh. Unfortunately hippies from San Fran are taking over and ruining the laws of common sense, freedom of speech, and personal reilabilty for everyone.
